Who still carries a Case Knife?

Heading over to Onslow Beach so the wife can shell and I can fish, carrying my 2318 PU CS for general use as well as drilling holes in Fishbites with the punch. OH

Maybe it's a difference of when and/or where they were made...? Maybe I've just been unlucky. Who knows. I can only speak from my personal experiences. Case is a hard pass for me every time. I've had the same experience with GEC & RR as well, sloppy/loose blade pivots. My A Wright & Son, on the other hand was pure perfection. Though I decided to let it go because I'm a steel snob. Same thing for my Michael May.
This thread is to celebrate Case Knives. There are plenty of other threads to complain. “My personal experience” is I’ve never had a Case knife come in the mail that needed to be returned.

Really? Because I get the feeling that you'd make a similar comment in any other thread too. Last I checked the truth wasn't outlawed yet, not even when it's unpopular or offends. Sorry to have offended you though brutha. I was just venting a frustration because as I'm pretty sure I stated already (which is absolutely celebration and praise), I think the case Sodbuster is truly the perfect knife design and I would have dozens in my collection by now if I could find a single one that wasn't of noteworthy terrible quality construction. Perhaps I'll try again... how many "fool me(s)" should one give I wonder, before it reaches Einstein's definition of insanity? Hmmmm

I'm not understanding you man,I'm not sure what a front flipper sodbuster is but if it is what I think it is,and then the matter of being a steel snob seeing as alot of traditional knives are good old carbon I'm getting a non traditional vibe from you brutha.

The “truth” is you can’t find a Case sodbuster good enuf for you to buy. The problem isn’t Case since there’s plenty of people who can. It’s a $40 knife.

Still one of my favorite patterns. The Copperhead carries well at work and play so I almost always have one with me.

Love that Copperhead. One of my favorite Case patterns. Just the right size for when you need a good sturdy Jack knife. I like the clip profile on the Copperhead better than the slightly larger Trapper (which is another of my favorite Case patterns). More of a drop and a pointier tip. Square tang so you get the half stops if you care about that sort of thing.

That is one serious looking punch blade. Almost looks like a very narrow but sturdy Wharncliffe blade. Seems they discontinued that model. A shame, it looks like it would be a useful variant depending on what you are up to. I use the punch/awl on a Victorinox Pioneer to cut and remove the foil seal from pill bottles, for which it is ideally suited.

That one on the Case looks like it could be used as a mini-honesuki to break down chicken!

If you have ever tried to push a fresh FishBite bait onto a surf hook you'll realize an awl is perfect for drilling a small hole and getting it on there. If you aren't very careful you'll push the hook into your fingertip, thus the reason for drilling a tiny hole. This idea came to me in one of those rare flashes of brilliance one day (stimulated by nearly pushing a hook barb through and into my fingertip). I had a SAK in my pocket and started using the awl. Doing so I realized how perfect a tool it was for a fisherman, I went on the prowl for a Case 18 (my favorite pocketknife pattern) with Awl and Sheepfoot secondaries - not easy to find in any handle or blade steel. My only compromise was the CS steel - for the saltwater environment I far prefer SS, but you take what you can find in a Unicorn pattern. OH

Picture of my SAK drilling a FishBite a couple years ago on a pier at Holden Beach NC. I replaced this knife in my fishing box with the 2318PU-CS, I'll take a new picture soon of the Case Knife doing this.
