They turned out good! I dyed a stockman a few months ago, using leather dye.Over the last few days I completed my first mods to Case knives. The bone on one of my Medium Texas Jacks was too light for my tastes and the jigging was weak on the pile side. Also the bone on a Pocket Hunter and Peanut was so light it looked off-white. So I experimented with some time in a dye bath. Results ranged from "meh" to "I like it". I still have a little remaining cleanup of some spotting, especially in the shield lettering. It'll be interesting over time to see how these change.
First attempt was the Texas Jack. I was going for a black cherry look. Instead, I got this dark muddy brown with a slight hint of red. I added too much graphite to the dye mix, and left it in the dye too long as the color darkened a bit after removal. Lessons learned for attempt #2, this was the "meh" result.

Second was the Pocket Hunter. I went for a medium to dark brown look. The knife spent less time in the dye. Not quite the color I had hoped but I like it a lot better than the off-white.

Third was the Peanut. I wanted a red, so nothing added to the red dye. This one ended up being dyed 3 times to make sure I didn't dye it almost black. First two dye baths came out as shades of pink. The third came a lot closer to what I was looking for. Not perfect, but I like it.

Group shot just because why not?

The Texas Jack will be one of my knives that'll get carried/ used if there might be a risk to the knife being damaged or lost/ stolen. The Pocket Hunter will be in the "I'll carry it when I get the urge" pile. The Peanut will go into the Red Friday pile. All 3 will be carried and used on occasion.

I also dyed a Case/Bose stockman that was just too red for my liking.

Thanks - I like the color on that stockman.
Thanks. I wanted both of them darker, and did the Case/Bose first. I figured I'm either going to be really sorry I did this, or it'll turn out okay.Nicely done; I think you improved both!
Before scrolling enough to see the outcome on the Bose I have to admit I got a bit uneasy and thought "this guy has iron nuts, not an iron 'but'".Thanks. I wanted both of them darker, and did the Case/Bose first. I figured I'm either going to be really sorry I did this, or it'll turn out okay.
That is some pretty bone on that one....Been sticking with this 1993 6318SS for over a week now; very nice walk & talk and not bad on the eyes either. OH

I love that Whiskey Bone Barehead TL - one of my most favorite Case knives. It's sitting package duty with me today.

Thanks, somehow I got one with bone a bit darker than most of the others I've seen. It's a shame they didn't do more, and I wish they were still making them.
