Let's hear it from the whole community. Let's really find out how Spyderco is percieved among the experienced knife users and active market. What say you, ahead or behind? THIS IS NOT MEANT TO PUT ANY OTHER COMPANY DOWN. I'M ASKING IF YOU THINK THEY ARE ONE OF THE LEADERS CURRENTLY.

I don't see the option to start a poll thread and if someone else knows how to do it, I'd really like to see a poll done.

My opinion: Spyderco is a leader.

Unfortunatley this kind of mirrors the thread already in progress. To me them Kershaw and BM are right up there, all with distinct styles and different offerings for any taste.

However this has been said over and over.

This is why I specifically worded it as "currently one of the...". No intention to put down anyone else, I'm just asking who thinks Spyderco is up there with any of the other leaders.

They are a favorite in my book and about as good as a production knife can get. Why are they so good well it is basically function over form.

Spyderco is one of the leaders and trend setters in the knife industry.

Currently I'd rate Spyderco

1 Tops for new in the box sharpness for their knives.

2 Tops for consistancy in lock strength and reliability in a production line of folders.

3 Tops for variety and quality of the blade steels offered

4 Tops for creativity for new locks as well as being in the top two companies currently for new knives offered to end line users from year to year. Due to the number of new models Kershaw came out with recently for the first time in recent memory Spyderco didn't make the grade but in their defense Kershaw came out with an unprecdented number of new models in one year.

Also, Spyderco is certainly in the top tier for customer service and support.

Just in case some of the naysayers haven't figured it out yet- this IS the market speaking. My last knife ordered 2 days ago was a Spyderco Para Military. I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of stores nearby that allows me to play all kinds of names and models, and I only looked seriously at the Spyderco models out of all the rest.

This topic seems very familiar...very similar. Reminds me of someone with the name "thedawg" in it.

I started this thread because I no longer want to read thedawg's remarks, yet I do want to see the comunity's opinions on where Spyderco stands in their minds and wallets.

Well said!

I look forward to the new Stop-Lock.

I agree they are. I own other knives but my EDC knives are Spydercos and they have been since my first pocket knife.

i dont know why i'm saying this again... here it goes. Yes, spyderco is at the top of the industry.

#1 Benchmade .
#2 spyderco.
#3 Kershaw.
#4 Sog.
I think Spyderco is the Glock of knives and Benchmade is the Sig of knives. Spyderco makes a very good knife. As well as Benchmade. I will say Spyderco's come razor sharp right out of the box. Not all Benchmades do. But thats why they make sharping stones.

Spyderco is without a doubt an industry leader. I question how much a person knows about the industry, who thinks otherwise.

"Personally", I rate Spyderco right there at the top. Steel offerings, different models, some nice upcoming collaborations and some tried and true designs.
I also have a few BM's and several Kershaws. I think Kershaw is more in the limelight now because as someone mentioned above, they came out with so many new models recently. By no means get the idea that Spyderco is lagging behind.
