Who thinks Spyderco is currently one of the leaders in the industry?

Among the folders I would rate Spyderco and Kershaw sofar ahead that the third place is kind of meaningless. There are still so many designs still in the works at Spyderco, it's kind of mind-boogling.

Spyderco is one of the leaders and trend setters in the knife industry.

Currently I'd rate Spyderco

1 Tops for new in the box sharpness for their knives.

2 Tops for consistancy in lock strength and reliability in a production line of folders.

3 Tops for variety and quality of the blade steels offered

4 Tops for creativity for new locks as well as being in the top two companies currently for new knives offered to end line users from year to year. Due to the number of new models Kershaw came out with recently for the first time in recent memory Spyderco didn't make the grade but in their defense Kershaw came out with an unprecdented number of new models in one year.

Also, Spyderco is certainly in the top tier for customer service and support.

STR

I also think STR nailed it.

I'd also ad that they keep their best models in production! There's nothing more frustrating than finally finding a knife you really like and then finding it discontinued later, after you wore out, broke, or lost your first one! ;)

Stay sharp,

Which company is first, second, or third is totally irrelevant to me. What matters is that a company produces a quality product and I have found that Spyderco in fact produces a quality product.

Just in case some of the naysayers haven't figured it out yet- this IS the market speaking. My last knife ordered 2 days ago was a Spyderco Para Military. I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of stores nearby that allows me to play all kinds of names and models, and I only looked seriously at the Spyderco models out of all the rest.

Let me get this straight. So you go to the local bricks and morter stores to handle the knives, but then order them over the internet?

I really don't care if they are a leader or not.

Spyderco produces a rock-solid knife, and that is all that I care about.

The place I go to charges $160 for a Para Military and $250 for a CF Caly 3. So yeah, I prefer the internet. If they could closer to the internet prices, I'd support the brick and mortar, but they just can't get close enough for me. The other store that I go to (Tad Gear) does have competitive prices, but they tend to carry knives that are out of my price range.

For me, it is without of questions. Spyderco is a top notch for quality, variety, designs, c/s and of cause forums, which I would consider also a part of customer support.:thumbup::thumbup:

Definitely one of the leaders; either #1 or #2, depending on the phase of the moon. ;)

Designs, value for the money, sharpness out of the box, customer service, etc., etc., etc. (Horse, can ya still feel anything? :) )

just baught 2 spydies and a byrd. my first. ff are good. super sharp! i will vote yes with my wallet in near future! great value for a great price!!! (much cheaper then my busse's and kiku's!)

iim glad im not the only one that feels that way

I apologize for my behavior btuner, I was having a bad day, but no excuses. My $%^&! ex-girlfriend from about 4 years ago decides that she doesn't want to leave me the hell alone. I allowed that on top of the BS that keeps coming out of thedawg's keyboard to frustrate me. Please forgive the attitude.

They are for folders but they still have quite a way to go when it comes to fixed blades.

Their Byrd knives are incredible. I have a hell of a time explaining why my SS Police costs 4 times what my SS Crossbill does to the average person.

They need a huge Spydernation website. It needs forums , a spyder collector online magazine , A bullitin board where Sal can address the masses , a Spyder exchange
(a strong secondary market gets people buying knives to collect and sit on which don't have warranty issues), a suggestion box , a virtual factory tour and a Shiny Footprints Foundation where the people active on the site (why pay people when Spyderco nuts will do the work better and for free?)can see progress on some kind of charitable endeavour.
Just off the top of my head "all fees from the exchange go toward that project that digs wells so kids in poor countries can drink safe water". To cut down on the administration just have it the honour system where if you sell something on the exchange it is requested you make a donation.

Maybe it is a silly idea but that is the corprate identity I think Spyderco and Sal are looking for and that is one of my favourite things about the company. I also think these attitudes have a huge effect on the personality of the knives they produce.

My last buy was a Spyderco, my next buy will be a Spyderco, and all of the knife gifts I'm giving for Christmas this year will be Spydercos.

I think they are among the industry leaders in every area where their products fit (F&F, O-O-B sharpness, CS, function & ergonomics, etc.) and they are innovators in several areas (lock design, steel selection, blade design, knives for specific carry restrictions or requirements, etc.) as well.
