Who uses their 'high-end', expensive knives?

randall 14 beat to heck while in usmc 25 years ago still use that all the time still looks great, just got a as classic and thats going to get allot of use, edc zt 0561 solid knife have so many theres a few that may or may not get used just got a survive knives gsp-5.1 in elmax and thats gonna get killed in the field but it can handle along with ordering the edc 4.3 in 3v and elmax soon, and I have a gso-10 in 3v and thats going to be the big go to blade.......

Currently in my pockets.
A $140 Mcusta
A $500 Damascus linerlock
A $350 pearl slipjoint
And a one of a kind slipjoint I made myself.

And yes...if I feel the need to use one I'll pull one of those out depending on the usage.

I don't abuse any of them. But they all see some usage ranging from whittling wood to opening packages or cutting steak. Life is to short to carry an ugly knife or one that you worry to much about. It's only stuff after all.

Yes!

I was removing a drywall wall and needed something to score it with; I was too lazy to get something else so my Strider SnG got volunteered.

After I scored the wall I got a little carried away I guess... :)

I own two knives. A busse team gemini light brigade $450 with kydex sheath. I've cut cardboard and chopped thick 2" weeds. Needs sharpening and two tiny nicks where it struck a chainlink fence while chopping. I will continue to use it and can't wait to go camping so i can go ape on some wood :) No matter what i do to it i can always turn it around and get more than what i paid for it back. Thats not why i bought it though, but it eases me on using such an expensive knife. Hell im gonna use the **** out of it!

Other knife is the spyderco paramilitary 2 s30v $100. It's been sharpened a couple times and my sharpening skill still needs a long way to go. I'll never get any money back from it but again, thats not why i bought it. I sure wish i had that blue one a few posts up. I really want an m390 or s90v user/slicer.

Now lets say i coughed up whatever the cost may be for a zero tolerance 0888. I'd probably have to think over a bit.

I use a Spyderco Gayle Bradley just about every day. It's not stainless (HUGE plus in my book) and the high hollow grind on that M4 steel makes for a great slicer that's quite stout and can out perform any other knife I've ever used.
It looks weird, but it brings home the bacon.

I used to think I would only carry and use my cheaper blades but now feel that if I have knives which are kept perfect by never using them then I am not getting my money's worth

Sometimes i might even be slightly careless with my four digit knives like one time i broke the tip off my spydie yojimbo by stabbing a bench because i was bored and tossing my fällknivens and busses around like they were moras in the forest
If i had the money for a rockstead i would certainly buy one just to be an ultimate snob and use it, though i am careful not to bring my discontinued and crazy expensive ones where it would be very likely to drop them and lose em

I used to carry and use Benchmades but have transitioned to Doziers for several years now, have carried and used all that I get.

From day to day, I carry either my Sebenza or Strider. I appreciate good quality in my daily life.

I use a Dozier Compact Personal (K-42) and Black Jack 125 now. I bought them to use and by gawd I am using them! I don't consider $100 a cheap knife, nor do I feel my Spydercos are cheap knives. The Spydies get used as do a number of other folders.

I do have knives that have never cut anything. Some are just waiting to be used and some just don't appeal to me much any more.

I use, but don't abuse. The bigger issue for me is finding a reason to carry certain knives. I find my SAK much more useful in my daily life than my para 2, and if I go camping I use my ESEE or Busse. Don't worry though. Sooner or later I'll find a reason to carry my Para 2:).

Why not get some use and personal satisfaction out of something you're passionate about and enjoy collecting ?
Being able to properly use and service/sharpen your knives is just part of the game.
Hiding them in the back of a safe for a decade in hopes of flipping them for a small profit just doesn't interest me.
I have a good friend who began collecting knives after i showed him my hobby, and he has accumulated thousands of dollars worth of steel, but he can barely open them with one hand... Let alone properly use them to cut something. His collection stays in his safe...IN THEIR BOXES. He is clueless of their capabilities and what makes them special.
What's the point???

I use all of my knives, regardless of cost. Limited editions normally reserved for collector's display cases go straight into my pocket and used like any other knife. Currently I'm carrying my my M4 ritter mini with custom cuscadi scales. The knife itself was one of 73 made (yes I know there was a previous batch of about 250 m4 ritters, mine comes from the most recent batch), they ran for $150 new, but sold out within hours of becoming available and showed up for sale at nearly double that price shortly after. I could have quick flipped it for some extra cash or stashed it away in a collection but I didn't. I took the thing apart, polished the internals, slapped on some custom cf micarta scales, and sharpened it up. Yes, using expensive(ish) knives does reduce their value, but in the end, knives are tools, and that's why I buy them. I get my enjoyment from knives through using them, not just letting them sit in a drawer.

Carrying a Large sebenza 21 here in Afghanistan with me. Why you ask? simple because I can.

I use all my knives, even my CRK's. I don't think I would enjoy them as much if I didn't use them, plus most high end knives have a great warranty:thumbup: I won't lie though, sometimes I like to carry cheapos like SRM's as loaners and really nasty work:eek:
