Not an Entry, although I've always thought of grabbing a Leek/Chive/Scallion, just haven't...

My gateway knife is an old Imperial Stockman my great grandpa carried for 50 years, the old man never went anywhere without it, many a fish was gutted and cleaned with that knife..After he died my mother passed it to me, it now resides in my Safe....pics are posted of in a thread I started awhile ago..

Great gaw by the way, hopefully it goes to a good home...

"entry" Thanks for the opportunity. I dont have pics of my collection but I can share the story of the gateway knife. For me the knife that got me to want to get into knives was the movie stand by me and christine. They both featured black handled sideopening autos. If I remember it was a rizzuto in both films. After seeing both movies at incredibly young ages (parents edited out the sex and language) I was obsessed with knives. HORRIBLY obsessed. My parents thought I was a sociopath obsessed with "weapons". Then one day my dad just asked me why I liked knives so much and if I wanted them to hurt people. And I explained how I just thought they were cool. Especially switchblades. My dad talked to my mom and the next day we were at ace hardware picking out my first POS. And that led to many POS down the road.

Entry. Thanks for the chance! This Buck 119 is the knife that got me into collecting when I was very young. Hope everyone has a happy fourth of July.

Can't go wrong with the Leek, count this as my entry! Thanks for the opportunity!

As for my gateway knife, I suspect it's a lot different from most people here. I have been interested in blades and edged weapons since I was a kid. As I got older and started making money, I decided to check the internet and see how easy it would be to purchase some blades I'd been interested in. Found out it was really easy, and ordered me a Khukuri House Service #1 khukuri!

Lots of great knives and knife stories, I have been enjoying the posts so far. Thanks all for the interest!

ENTRY!

my knife that started the madness was my buddies mini griptilian. I couldn't afford it so I got a kershaw blur, but the desire for the mini grip got me on the forums and 100+ knives later (most which are gone now).. here I am.

Entry. Thanks for the opportunity.

My son carries a Leek. I got it on sale on Amazon at Christmas 2 or 3 years ago. I've tried several other knives, but nothing with get the Leek out of his pocket. If I win, I'll give it to my son.

This is my folder collection! I haven't yet had a leek. But I have read nothing but great things about it!

Here's my entry.
My mother gave me my first knife when i was about 7. It was a cheap, no name, black slip joint. I wish i still had it. I had a series of cheap, no name knives as i got older. My first decent knife was a Smith and Wesson "Homeland Security" folder i bought when i was 17. I quickly began reading as much as i could about knives, aquiring others.
I actually had a Leek several years ago. It, like my first knife, was a gift from my mother. I traded it on these forums years ago, and i have always regretted it. I wish i could buy it back from whoever has it now.

Entry.

I purchased my first knife on a whim while at Walmart about a month ago (Kershaw Cryo) after looking around for a while. I liked it but it was a bit small so I returned it a few days later. After that it became a daily thing to search for all things knife related. After days of looking around, and slowly and subtlety increasing my budget, I decided on purchasing a Kershaw Blur after reading up on it and how many people enjoyed it. (The Black DLC coated Blur was nearly $20 cheaper, but I just loved the Blackwash on the blade, and didn't want to spend extra on the S30V Blur.) The ability to de-assist it was a major factor in the event the torsion bar breaks from the repetitive opening/closing I've put it though in the past week and a half. I absolutely love it. It's incredibly smooth while opening and closing, the part of the blade that catches on the liner lock seems to have been machined to an angle to stop any of the lock failures I've seen around the web.

I'm already looking for new knives...

First let me say, thanks for the opportunity you are giving BFC with this GAW, its very generous of you; and opportunities such as this is something that helps the community grow and come together.

My collection is in a way all over the place. I have some flea market specials, a few "its cool because it looks crazy" knives (cheapies), when i started getting more into knifes (gerber phase) i was buying a lot of gerbers and sub $25 knives. Then after getting my first job and joining bladeforums i started to learn about knives of better quality. I use to hate spydercos because of the lack of a thumbstud and now they are one of my favorite brands. I went from a majority of sub $30 knives (that i lost most of when our family's home got robbed twice), to sub $100 knives. For the most part I'm now shopping in the $50-$100 range. I have a ZT0561 and spyderco PM2 satin/digi those are my two plus $100 knives. For the near future I'm projecting me picking up a second benchmade and few beckers (love the looks of their clip point models). If i have to describe my collection in a few words its would be "quality knives ready for a working I would prefer a coated blade, but a coating is not a must. I have yet to have an acid wash knife but i do like the looks they produce. Satin, bead blast, stone wash are neither great or bad for me. For some reason i prefer a coating, but i have my fair share and an equal amount or great of uncoated blades as to my coated blade. Also for the most part I'm speaking of folders, for my fixed blade I'm not really concerned about coatings. i like the looks of a developed patina on carbon steel so strictly speaking carbon steel blades i would want an uncoated blade fixed blade or folder., that wont break the bank on a minimum wage income (such as my own)."

The knifes that got me started originally was a victorinox (don't know the model) and a one hand opening schrade. I was drawn to the vic at an early age because of the sheer functionality they possess, and the schrade came about for fishing for trout when we go camping. I got the schrade at about the age of 10-12 but being able to have those knives and screw around with them and see their benefits was really great. The schrade got stolen, it was replaced with the same model, the stolen again. Then i started carrying flea market knife, however they were always dull so they didn't provide much in the way of precise cutting, but i didn't respect the edge of a knife and still did stupid stuff like cut on the cement and throw the knife. Fast forward a few years I'm in frys and i see a gerber, and i member hear the army used gerber products so i thought "if the army uses them they must be the best knives" so there went that and now I'm here still refining my tastes and preferences.

Not an entry, but the Leek was the first knife I bought. Great slim little folder. Thank you for your generosity/contribution!

I would like to thank you for your contribution to bf, and this wonderful giveaway.

Entry. It would be the Camillus air force survival knife that my dad carried in the air force. And I later carried as a boy scout.
Thanks again.

Entry, this is the blade that got me started. My little brother helped me pick it out at the local knife store back home. Used it roughly for about a year until I got several more. Never sees daylight anymore because I would like to conserve it. Always wanted a leak but when I get enough I usually just end up saving for something more expensive lol.

Accept this as my entry. My gateway knife into collecting was the Spyderco Delica 4 and Benchmade mini Griptillian. Still carry both in my rotation. and also heres a funny story. A few years back before i really got into collecting i bought a FAKE kershaw leek. I loved it until it fell apart in my hands one day (literally fell apart).
So thanks for the opportunity to win such an awesome blade!

Not an entry. Great offer and nice thread. there are Gateways and then there are Gateways. Boy Scout knife was the original entry many years ago. That was quickly replaced with a Buck that wore holes in my pockets for at least 20 years. The next real gateway was The Leek. That lead to a bunch of Autos.

Entry
