Who Wants The "native Chief?"

Should Spyderco Make the "Native Chief?"

  • Yes--it's the design that counts! FRN and Endura spec quality is fine.

  • Yes, but I'm a steel snob and a handle junkie--make it $$$$ or not at all.

Well, I sent Carlos an email a week or so ago and so far no word.

Who else should I email. Joyce? Sal?

Since Basic Members can't search, I've brought this back from the depths.
Also, I don't want to give up on this one!
Sorry to keep bugging you Sal.;)

Oh, I spent the money I set aside for it.
But I could borrow from my kids. :)

BBBBB-BBB-BB-TTT-TTTT-TTTTTTT! :)

Had to add my whiny stutterttering little voice!
Still waiting on the BIG NATIVE.

I haven't heard anyone mention using AUS-10. My SS Native II with AUS-10 performs very well. I don't object to the use of 440V or S30V, its just the price that gets me. By the way, is the S30V steel in the new FRN Native superior to the 440V version? I haven't heard much on this.

G-10 would also make a nice handle for this new native. It would also be nice to see a stainless handle with AUS-8 or AUS-10.

Let's have another try at visualizing this un-nameble wishblade. I've tried to compare it to a Blue G10 Native. I hope the proportions are close.

Goodness, I'd forgotten how beautiful a knife can look.

How did Coho produce that photo?
Does he have access to a prototype, or did he stre-e-e-etch the photo of a regular Native, or...?

Some time back Sal used a phrase to denote a lock designed to withstand the abuses of martial use.
Does anyone remember the phrase?
Does that level of lock require steel liners?

I think I will print the picture Coho has provided and pin it up where I can see it regularly.

As I have mentioned several times before, I have sharpened the swedge of my GIN-1 Native.
I wonder if Spyderco would put a factory edge on the swedge of this new Native if I sent it back to the factory after purchasing it.
I mean, I could do it myself in an afternoon, but I would really like it with a nice, neat, professional-looking factory edge.

I wouldn't mind paying for it if it looked like a factory edge.
Then I'd go to the trouble of designing and making a belt sheath for it.

The picture of the prototype was done by the late James Mattis. I just enlarged the canvas and superimposed a picture of the blue Native on it.(at a guessed at proportion)

I will be in line for one of the production models, fur shure.

James Mattis took that picture?

I remember James from the forums.
Sometimes I visit his site:

http://home.earthlink.net/~jkmtsm/

People say nice things about James wherever I encounter his name.
Did he have some affiliation with Spyderco?

If not too big, I would like to have a better copy of the original photo than the one I can copy here.

Thanks for the info, Coho.

Any progress on the "Stretched Native"?

This isn't related to the 3D Native is it?

I have a 440V Native coming in a trade, and I would -definitely- spring for a stretched G10/S30V Native.

Although I'd like to lodge my opinion: I hate coloured grip knives.

They attract more attention than black handled knives.

A black "tactical" knife attracts a lot less attention than a brightly colored "sheeple" knife, in my experience.

A black or wood handle is the closest thing to a "kitchen" knife.

The worst thing possible would be a bright blue Yojimbo. Attract looks, comments, and the wrong kind of attention. :( :( :(

Well, I'm still in. At least the SpyderHawk came out. I plan to get one of those.

I want a large Native more.

Karl

Ok, I have pre-ordered the 3D Native as a show of good faith ;)
When can we expect the larger Native??:) Don't make me order a s30v Native! Cuz I will!

Wow!
What a lot of trust Spyderco has engendered.
People pre-order their knives without a picture or a review.

I just sent off a money order for a BF Blue Native. I can't wait to get it in my hands. Now I finally see a pic of a bigger Native. Put my name on the list.

This obsession with great knives is gonna bankrupt me. Oh well the kids won't need braces for a few more years.

Well, I hate to be the guy to rock the boat, but I really like my 440V native... would it be so bad to have a BG-10 or S30V blade, with a FRN handle? Maybe, if it meant more expense due to making new molds, but still... either way, I'd spring for a large native.
