Who Went to Oregon?? Post Your Booty!!

I read Lloyd as saying, "X caught my eye because I like them. Was surprised it hasn't turned up, but now it has."

I think he got interpreted a bit harshly.

LOL. Wasn't meaning to be harsh. Hope you didn't take it that way Lloyd. All in good fun. I just didn't think it was fair to Charlie for Lloyd to infer that he knew how things went down, when in fact he doesn't. Sorry if I hurt your feelings Lloyd. I just tend to speak my mind and sometimes it comes off as being harsh.

No problem Al! My feelings are perfectly in tact. I have nothing but respect for your collecting ability and our path and passion respecting these TC folders we love is similar. All is good please carry on and let's get back to our discussions on these wonderful folders. Lloyd

The pics look good Al:thumbup: Even better than in person!
And just for the record... there was no high grading on Charlies TC's. I got to them Saturday morning after we arrived at the show. I was just behind the table instead of in front.:D
Charlie had let some of us look at what he had brought but NOBODY got to reserve or set aside any before hand. He was VERY emphatic about that! And as it turns out we didn't even get to see ALL Charlie had brought. As a matter of fact I didn't even find the Ivory Sheepfoot until the final Tupperware container was opened about 1 hour after the feeding frenzy had begun. You remember Al, I texted you with the Barlow Update. :D

And just for the record...Josh was at the head of the line, Lloyd was in the place position. (just a little racetrack jargon there):D

Thanks Dave, good pics are easy when the subjects are so photogenic :D

Dave

True story guys. There is no need for any implications that anything nefarious went on. And if anyone has any doubts, I have the text msg exchange with Dave that shows the date/time stamp, 4 hours after the doors opened on Saturday, asking if I wanted a knife. If anyone wants to see that, send me a PM and I will be happy to take a photo of my cell phone for you.

And from all accounts in the photos and stories that I've seen, Charlie was very accommodating and other forum members, like Perry, deferred to those who were the most neurotic about grabbing their bounty of Barlows. It's just plain silly for those who actually made out with the most "loot", as it's been called, to now be micro-analyzing the process and making statements like, "I thought I was first in line". Be happy with the knives that you got and enjoy them. It's not a contest.

You guys are a little more than slightly obsessed with barlows and GEC. From here it certainly reads like a contest.

The title is now "Post your Booty". (Assume that means knive:)) Any other Booty? Anyone get a custom slipjoint or get a fixed blade custom or otherwise? Did they anyone see and handle the new Cold Steel slipjoints? Was there some of the current Queen production? Anyone find a nice old Case they've been looking for?

I was happily surprised and amazed at the total amount of barlows Charlie generously brought to the show! Even on Sunday morning there were some awesome and rare barlows up for grabs--if you scroll back to my display case picture, that was when I snapped it. It was tempting to hit up the ATM another time. :)

Yes it was, Charlie even gave me, and I'm guessing others, options to pay for the knives if you were out of money. While very tempted, I had to use good judgement, which is not normally the case with me.

Sorry if I caused any confusion! My poor filing techniques resulted in more than double the amount of Barlows that I showed in the first tub a while back.
Two Rubbermaid tubs plus!!
But hunt as I might, there are no more. The few stragglers have even moved on via Gunstock Jack. He bought the few remaining, and sold them through his "store". He and his wife Annie were great helps, watching everything so I could go exploring, and spend a little money on antiques!
In fact, Dave and Rick did the same - we had quite a crowd behind the tables at times!!

I was lucky enough to grab a couple of other Barlows through the "trickle down" from the show as well, a blackwood sheepsfoot from another member and a gorgeous Che Chen Rosewood from Barry. Between those and the few Dave was kind enough to get for me, I was able to piece together a nice little bounty myself :)

Luckily for me (actually my wallet), I wasn't able to attend because there were a bunch of other knives that I've seen attendees post, that I would have been tempted to buy.

LOL! That is a common tactic for "dealers" to use to get you addicted to their product. First one's free! :D:D:D

Actually, "Post your booty" is Charlie's directive to get your butt on the corner to make back the money you owe him, now that you've gone into hock for your addiction to his product. It's all a part of Charlie's secret plan for complete and utter world domination.:D:D

Congrats on mastering the "Bucket" Rick!!
Now maybe we will see more of your cool finds!
You should "survey" your collection and "scout" a couple out!!
:D
:D
:D

Nice whittler! Love the main blade: long pull, blood groove and sabre grind. WHEW! the bone ain't half bad either..... ;)

Well I know I'm late to the party  But I finally got some time when it was overcast today to take a few shots.
So here we go... this is what I came home with from Eugene!
1st up is a Sodbuster in D-2 from Queen, I acquired it in a deal with... who else... Charlie!:D I already have the Schatt version of this knife, but it was nice stag and D-2 :D

Up next are 3 George Wostenholm's, the 1st is a sleeveboard with delrin covers

Next are 2 HJ's that are basically the same pattern but have different style punches. Both have slick black covers but the 1st one is in much better shape, with very little wear.

Great photos Dave! Thanks for sharing, and thank you SOOO MUCH for grabbing a couple of Barlows for me!!

The story about your adventure with Charlie trying to find KSF is priceless! What I wouldn't give to see a video of that! In fact, that would be the best reality show ever! Sort of like American Pickers, but instead it would be Charlie "The Kris Kringle of Barlows" Campagna & Dave "The Cowboy Knowtracks" Gentry, traveling the countryside, in search of vintage pocket knives. Someone needs to contact the History Channel and pitch that idea!!:D:D

The photos you posted are great! It is sooo funny how in every photo that Lloyd is in, he has a singular, laser-like focus on the task at hand. Who is the kid in the light blue shirt next to Lloyd in a lot of the photos, is he a forum member? He must've done some damage too, because in all the photos, he's knee deep in the trenches, right next to Lloyd.

Thanks again for sharing, and I hope to make it there next year...

Long over due but better late than never, this is Josh and I am the one elbows deep in Charlies blue bins. Today has been the first day since the show I have had a chance to come up for air because of work obligations and travel. Charlie, Dave and Barry are purchase mentors of the worst kind and they started in on me early Friday. Having never met Barry prior to the show, we struck up a conversation while I was waiting for Charlie to show up and we quickly became acquainted with one another. Barry then proceeded to start putting all sorts of GEC's into my grubby hands but nothing had spoken to me yet, one came close, a viper but the 440c blade wouldn't do. Then he reached into his pocket and showed me an ebony TC sheepsfoot he was carrying in his pocket and I was smitten. Barry must have seen a twinkle in my eye as he then offered to part with it in exchange for some green colored paper with funny faces printed on them, who was I to say no. That TC Barlow (in the pictures below) has been in my pocket since the show and is changing my mind about carrying not only a traditional as my EDC but the sheepsfoot blade pattern also. Charlie showed up sometime later as I lost track of time chatting with Barry. I was able to twist Charlie's arm just enough to let me take a peek inside the blue bin for a preview of what was to come Saturday. As soon as I gazed upon it's contents I knew I was in trouble and my excitement for Saturday morning was hard to contain. This preview was strictly look and no touch and come to find out it was only a small portion of what Charlie had brought. The bin was quickly placed back under the table not to appear again tell Saturday morning.

Fast forward to Saturday morning, up early with my Dad and right at the front of the line for the 8:00am opening. The doors opened and like a shot out of a canon I was beating feet to Charlie's table only to find he was fashionably late. This gave those of us there time to chat and contemplate the event we were about to be a part of "Charlow Ganza 2015". Charlie showed up to a rather large gathering as the photos already posted showed. Charlie requested 15 minutes to gather things together and I think he wanted to savor the moment a little longer and bring everyone's anticipation to a fever pitch. TC Barlow's consolidated into two bin's, Charlie placed them both in front of me and what I figured to become a frenzy began. To my surprise and everyone present's credit things went eerily smooth and you couldn't have gathered a more civil bunch of folks. The next 25 - 30 minutes were nerve wracking trying to determine which Barlow's spoke to me and at one point I had 15 or more tubes in front of me that were all possibles. In a couple of the photo's already posted I am in the process of trying to pair down my selections to a reasonable amount which ended up being 5. Then Charlie asked who needed a Copperhead and my hand shot up and Charlie was gracious enough to hand it over to me and now my count was 6. Thinking I was done I began to settle up with Charlie and handed over payment just as Charlie pulled out another bag of tricks. A box containing yet more Barlows and a complete set of Washington Jacks! I didn't have enough funds left to due much more damage but one of the Washington Jacks spoke to me, it had beautiful cocobolo covers but I would have to leave it up to fate on whether it would find a new home under my roof. Perry had a friend looking for a cocobolo Washington Jack and he sent out a text seeing if they were interested. So I asked Charlie to hold it back if Perry's friend declined and promised to be back later in the show. Hours passed as I wandered the show and to be honest 2:30 rolled around and I had completely forgot about the Washington Jack until I circled back to Charlie's table. I asked Charlie if it was available and to my surprise, it was mine if I wanted it. I couldn't pry the money out of my wallet fast enough and now my count was up to 7 and my wallet empty. It was a great day but unfortunately all good things come to an end. I thanked Dave and Barry for the wonderful conversation and the new friendships formed. I then bid farewell to Charlie and thanked him for being a big part of another great year at the OKCA show. I already look forward to seeing Dave, Barry and Charlie at next years show and only hope I am able to spend more time with all three, they truly are 3 of the most upstanding gentleman you will ever meet.

As they say, pictures or it didn't happen. Below is my haul from the OKCA show plus two TC Barlows from prior shows, a Red saw cut with incorrect tube cap purchased from Charlie at the 2014 show and my very first TC Barlow a Copperhead (this is the Copperhead with the darker covers of the two in the photos below) from the 2013 OKCA show which planted the traditional seed that has grown into a full blown addiction.
