I'm getting real nervous about my part in all this.

What a great blade this is going to be!!!!

Steve

Steve, please consult Bruce on how fine he prefers the finish to be for his etching. I advised Dave that for him to go finer than about 400 / 600 grit on the belt grinder would be extra work since the blade will get some scratches on it from bench work while doing handle work.

I was a little nervous in the first time drilling bedding glass with Rogers mix of steel in it. :(
it drilled a little tighter hole.
kind of a one shot deal if it went over sized. :( :)

Dan, the whole thing appears tight and that bolster work is top shelf.

I hope to get started grinding the jade down to profile next week or by this weekend. I need to be out of town a few days next week but other than that it should go pretty quickly once I get started.

We still need to hear from Dan K. concerning his plans for the cert.

RL

Hi guys - I have the pieces cut and ready for itching (damascus and mokume) . I have the silver bola frame ready. only need to itch the pieces - I have the ivory cut and ready to bezel. I have decided to use the jade in the bola tips. I'll build silver caps for them and they will swing free at the bola tip. I'll be going to see Bruce this next week sometime and will do the itching.

When I return I'll put it together. It has taken a little longer than I would have like - getting everything ready to build new home you know- delays -Wait Wait Wait - I hate waiting  Anyway all the pirces are coming together nicely.

That's great Harry.

I received the blade back from Dave today. It is wonderful and the tang is nice and flat on both sides.

Many things have occured to and with me since last posting. All kind of pulling in diffrent directions and as a result I am way behind on many things including my obligation to this knife.

To top it off, today I find that I just lost my day job of 17 years. Do not worry. I am a survivor.

I promise to get on the handle next week, for sure. Once started it should not take many days. Its a bad time to have to order belts. Ain't that the way it always works though.

We still need to hear from Dan K. about the cert..

RL

Ouch Roger
sorry to hear about the Day job :(
wellcome to full time making
time is on our side, so don't rush the Colb knife on my account I'm sure the others feel the same..
just think of all the stuff you can catch up on that you didn't have time to do before :)
the catch 22 is when you've got the time, you don't have the money Dang:grumpy:

Thanks Dan. Very thoughtful of you. The truth is I am very anxious to get this thing done and each day just adds to my guilt of not better keeping my word. I love this knife and want to see it finished, so it remains very high on my list of things to get done. Going full time would be the berries for me. If I could just squeeze in enough more experience to learn how to make them faster.

work longer, faster, burn more fingers, push the wheel harder, get stock in the ele company,
and your more than wellcome anytime to what little I know.. :)

Roger's knives proves a point. You don't rush perfection. You are a very exceptional knife maker, Roger. You are like many of us as far as turning them out, we just can't get them out the door fast enough to claim a real big profit. Hey, I'm really sorry about the news of the day job, Roger. 17 years of good work and loyality doesn't count for anything with most companies, nowdays. I'm glad to see our project knife is still on track. The more I read our thread, the more I realize my jade part was the easiest!

Roger has the ball John ,,

Roger remember to send the template back to me it's 154CM :)
I want to finish it as a close rep of the forum knife.
if you want after you get the Jade ground I can do the rest of the handle work if you're tied up..if that will help you out..

Dan,

I owe you big time Pal. I'll take you up on that. I'm dying here trying to keep up. I hate that I have back slid on this project but I got caught at a real bad time. I got my new belts in a few days back so I will jump on the jade and get them profiled down to surface of template perimeter. I should lap them also to round them toward the ivory scales too (right?). Please advise on that and any other particulars you wish to advise me of.

You da man.

Roger

Sorry, guys! I wasn't poking a stick in anyone's ribs, or trying to hurry anyone. I just wondered where we are at with our project. Roger, you have enough grief/work to complete (and a BUNCH) of those beautiful scandies to get done. I know ol' Dan has to be pretty busy, too. All you fellas have been doing a great job with our knife, by the way.

no problem Roger
I'm sure everyone will wait if you want to do it.
sending to me is OK too... glad to help..
I'd said yes to rounding them toward the ivory scales but only to the point of what the bolsters are (or will be when you're finished.) we don't want a weird place where the jade Ivory and bolsters meant.

John, interest always spurs motivation. but free jobs need to be 2nd
to needs. that's why free is cheap :D LOL

Dan exactly what I think. You gotta eat and pay the bills first. Our knife isn't going to spoil or anything, and it's looking good because we take our time doing our work. You guys GOOD, too!

No, things are not letting up yet but I have to get the jade finished and sent back out to you (Dan). I am trying to get it out to you first of week. The more I look at this collab knife the better it looks. Its going to be a killer knife.
