Who's Drinkin'?????

Laddie Black Art? Nice bottles & blades there Cobalt! Yeah, Lagavulin is one of my Islay stalwarts in the bunker too - I like your style. ;)

On the Hibiki 21, I'm just lucky I have friends & family that fly through Narita on a semi-regular basis so they know to ping me when they're in Duty-Free.

Yeah, I can never find it. The 12 is so smooth that I can only imagine how good the 21 is

Well,
I admit to not being highly educated in either experience or palate. My father-in-law started me out on single malts.

So if my simple choices seem to have training wheels then I will pedal carefully.

I do not carw, for the "soapy" taste of some of the distilleries. The simple clear flavors suit me.

Of course I was one of the guy who used to smoke the "JOY DE MONTEREY EXCALIBUR " (the big maduro) back before they got popular and could get them for under $3.00.

Guess I am just a stupid simple sort of person.

Thanks for letting me chime in.

BTW- I can't really drink because of the meds I take. And can't smoke anymore either. So I am mostly being nostalgic please forgive my reminiscing.

The 21 is that much more densely flavored compared to the 12 - worth it IMHO.

And Justin, I for one am thankful for differing palates - it makes for a more interesting world of whiskies because otherwise, we'd all be drinking the same thing.

Too tired to drink. Been grinding all day and think im getting a bit of a cold or something. Think its just gonna be some medicine and sleep tonight. Hope you guys have a great night.

My new favorite booze, Mezcal.
This is a good all purpose one,, nice to sip, or to mix.

I can't believe you can get that in Virginia but Spec's doesn't carry it. Especially for something imported by Sazerac. It seems like that should be easy to find. Go figure. But I have to agree, hipster fashionability aside, good mescal is really good stuff.

That's my wife's favorite. I make smoky Palomas with it and margaritas with a floater. There's this guy in NYC he owns Mayahuel and does amazing things with that and much more.

There's also a chef in D.C. That does this clean Margarita with a salt "air" on top. He uses the stuff in the packet in the photo to create a foam that doesn't go away. So instead of a salt rim you suck in the foam on top of the drink and you get your salt and lime flavors from it. The Ester packet was stupid expensive though.

What! We love Jose Andres, is a hangout for us whenever we visit. Going to have to pm you to say hi when we go down again! Bar mini is like impossible to get into, my wife asked if you had the real recipe versus my bs version. Lol

This is my wife making the salt air margarita before she dedicated the cocktail making to me. Found the recipe in bon Appétit.

See what the sucrose does? Pretty cool! The foam sits up for like 30 minutes.

Looks great! I'll find the restaurant recipe Monday and send it to you, but should be pretty much the same.
Yes, let me know next time you're in town, maybe we can work out a reservation at Barmini

Yes, Bulleit Bourbon old fasioneds!!

Now some Foothills Frostbite black IPA!!!!

Warming up for the single malts.

All this talk about rare Whisk(e)y!  Here's my rarest (this particular bottle is rare as hen's teeth):

I was extremely fortunate to get a bottle the last time I was at the distillery! They had just started their aged single-barrel program, and I was able to get a bottle of the exclusive 14-year from only the second barrel of the program!!!  The first two barrels were only sold on-site, and buyers could sign the barrels if they chose to (I did). The barrels are now on display in their gift shop.

They had about a dozen bottles left, and hindsight being 20/20, I should have purchased multiples. :( I only missed getting a bottle from the first barrel by a couple weeks, but that's the way it goes. I opened this one, and enjoy a bit every now and then. :D

Love good Mezcal... Will have to start drinking those again. Here's my pour tonight - Happy Burns Night Y'all!
