I'm wondering who carries an EDC that is less than 3 inches and why do they carry it? My current EDC is a Benchmade 705 and I'm considering purchasing a smaller EDC. I have my eye on the Benchmade Benchmite and a couple of the smaller Spyderco's. I bought my Wife a Kershaw Chive and while playing around with it I discovered that I don't really need a three inch blade and a blade closer to two inches would work just fine for the everyday activities I subject my knife to. I want to hear from everyone that prefers the smaller knives being manufactured.

I carry a small Sebenza in addition to two "social knives."

The small Sebbie is great little knife: built solid, easy to clean, cuts like a dream, and doesn't raise an eyebrow.

Just about all of mine are <3". My Delta Z's are my work/dress carry, and with jeans it's usually a Delica, Rookie, or Standard. All fall in the 2.75 - 3" range.

I do, some jobs don't require a big tree choppin' barrel stabbin' car door murderin' tactical folder.

Sometimes you need a thin hair scarin' paper slicin' thin little blade.

Also it's more sheeple friendly, who cares about sheeple anyway?

My minigrip is plenty big for edc, I carry it because it's the easiest to use knife I've ever handled bar none.
I also like to carry my Spyderco Mouse from time to time cuz I like that solid sounding "CLACK" it makes when you open it...I know its stupid but thats really why!

I have been carrying a Kiwi most often and recently went to a Cricket FRN to be a backup money clip. Before that the Calypso Jr was the EDC that I carried most. Just don't need a big folder at work. At home and weekends I carry the larger folders in my rotation.

Except for my Buck/Mayo & Marlowe Gents Hunter, all of my EDCs are under 3". To me, it just makes sense. Although Illinois law is ambiguous about knives over 3", it makes it very clear that knives under 3" are not to considered weapons unless they are used that way. Furthermore, under 3" knives are more than enough for my daily needs. Finally, I work at a university among many people who don't carry knives. The last thing I need to do is whip out a 4" tactical and scare the crap out of all my colleagues. Usually I never take out anything larger than my Obenauf Mini Model 2, Duncan Mini Police Whiplash or De Villiers Exectac Spearpoint. My little Spyderco Jesters are also great little cutters too.

All of my EDCs are sub-3" inchers. These include two small Sebenzas, several Spydies, BM and V'nox. These knives are more convenient to carry due to their weight and size and I have found that they cut just as well as larger folders, this is especially true of the Sebbies. As some one else mentioned they are much less likely to raise eyebrows. It's a shame but that issue does have to be taken into consideration. I do have a couple of larger folders but they are in our vehicles.

until today when the Buck/Mayo arrived, I have carried one of the following everyday:

CR Umfaan
Wm Henry T10
MT UDT

I usually use 4+ folders and fixed, though I carry a sub 3". I've given up caring what the bleating class thinks and just use what I feel like. It now depends on where my hands are when I want to cut something, and how close to my fingers I'll be working.

my sub 3" are:
SS 'Fly PE
Tufram Cricket SE(currently in box)
Calypso jr lt PE(currently in box)
stockmans

Most of mine are less than 3" also. I am usually found with a Spyderco delica, or a native.

I carry this size because I am a meek and dainty, petite porcelain doll.

{cough}

A Microtech Mini-UDT would do it... (I have one on the way). But my current EDC is my BM 556.
I'm planning on having (on me):
A Multi-tool or SAK (non-blade utility) (probably a Leatherman Juice of a large SAK)
A small 2 - 2.5" folder (light utility) (most likely mini-UDT)
A large 3 - 4" folder (3 inch isn't that large, but I'm looking at a LCC, Amphibian or AFCK on a belt sheath or cliped to front right pocket but then were will I put my Mini UDT... anyway this larger folder will be for heavy duty usage/last resort defense and won't be carried all the time...)

edited to remove a sentence which didn't make sense.

edited again because I felt like it!

I carry a Boye fixed blade with a blade of about 2 1/4". It is easy and inconspicuous to carry and does everything I need an EDC to do.

All my EDC knives are sub 3" sak's. My folding knives that are larger get carried once in a blue moon.

I like small folders.

I just want to start out by saying no I'm not knutz, I put my hand in my pocket to answer this question,I carry too many EDCS to give a straight yes or no answer.

So when I lined up the nearly 2 lbs. of combined weight and over 2 1/2 feet of combined blade length. I quickly came to the realization that I carry way to much steel on a daily basis,(anyway I'm getting sidetracked here)

The run down goes something like this,(bear with me there is a point in there somewhere, knee surgery has graduated me from codeine to percocets, so I tend to ramble after taking my meds, where was I.... oh yeah a point, a good thing to have on a knife and.... right what I was getting to) of all the knives in my pocket 9 out of 12 are 3" and under.

Now I always believed that the bulk of my EDCs were larger knives, this thread has shown me that I probably could get rid of some of my smallers EDCs instead  :( .

Well I thank you all for tolerating the inane rambling of a man slightly skewed by presciption narcotics.:) :D   :barf:

Since the mid 1960's my only EDC has been a sub-3" bladed Schrade stockman. Has done all it was asked to do. Started to carry a Buck 110 with a 3 3/4" blade along with the Schrade for those 'bigger' jobs.
