Who's EDC has a blade smaller than 3 in.?

In my opinion, sub 3 inch blades are called "pen knives." Cute and all, but not worth more than opening mail or peelin' apples.

Blades under 3 inches can be very useful if they are of the proper shape. Frankly, most of the tasks that I need a knife for fall into the opening mail or peeling apples category, so why do I need something bigger?

My sub 3's are:

1) Small regular se sebenza. Cuts like a dream, not too scary to the vast unwashed masses.
2) William Henry Kestrel-jigged bone. Gorgeous, well crafted, and okay for the corporate environment. Definately NOT a working knife.

IMHO, you just can't do better than the sebbie. If you're concerned that ever losing a $300 knife would ruin your day, I'd recommend the Benchmade mini AFCK. It's under 3" and not too expensive.

I think all of the knives you mentioned are great carry pieces. Chris Reeve's sebenza design is a classic. I put it right up there with the Loveless drop point and the SAK.

Bowies are good for people who piss you off!:D

Actually, I prefer little knives like mine because they are hard to spot. You'll notice a bowie in my hand. You won't see my little EDC knives until they cut. We actually discuss and practice with little knives in our Bujinkan dojo.

Now on the flip side, I have to admit a nice bowie has some appealing lines. I saw some at the Austin Knife Show that were really impressive. I actually like larger knives, but I noticed that my larger Spydercos wound up on the shelf and my little fixed blades stayed in my pocket. Once I realized that, I decided that a small knife in the pocket beats a large folder on my dresser.
