Who's excited for #47 Viper?!

Yes it certainly is. I brooded a long time trying to decide between that and an Osage Orange version. The lumber took the honours as I don't have a knife in that particular wood.

I was thinking I would like one in Osage too - very nice looking knife. Still going to get the Northfield in natural stag though!

I grabbed one in green micarta last week, and then the Northfields came out, so I grabbed another in blood red jigged bone (possibly my favorite cover!) The mailman's got to be wondering why I'm always perched in the window like a dog waiting for him to arrive...

Jeez, the mail is slow. It's agonizing waiting for things to arrive from the US. My TC took three weeks to get to me.

Very cool, I like it. Mike's peach seed SFO.

I got mine (green Micarta) today. This is my third GEC but the first that would cut paper right out of the box (or tube.) Pull is firmer than the Northwoods Burnside I have but less than the Queen-made Indian River Jack. Just a touch heavier than my rust red TC Barlow. Walk and talk are great, although the back spring sits a little proud when the blade is at half stop.

Thanx for the knife porn guys. It's gonna have to tide me over until mine arrives in SS and Amber bone. Can't wait to put it to work.

Mine in green micarta arrived today!! This thing is awesome! Now to wait for the arrival of my Northfield in blood red bone, and GEC in maroon micarta to arrive later in the week :)

I've had one in Ebony for a few months now, and while I only seldom carry it, is it normal for this model to be really hard to pull and open? This is only my 2nd traditional, and my first, a 55 Hounds Tooth is never carried because for a small knife, it's also hard to open. Is there anything that can be done to make them easier to pull open?

A nice thing about the Viper is that it can be pinched open. But I wouldn't say the pull is hard, not compared to a #78 or #25.

That bone handled stainless does look good. My buyer's remorse kicking in....And still waiting for it to arrive, must be crossing the Atlantic by ship:D

This arrived this evening! With CASE SBJ to show the size difference, quite a lot!

A short review. Despite being bigger than the CASE it feels better and is not some clumsy heavy weight in your pocket. Could be the wood scales?

I wasn't that struck with the pattern when it first emerged but after viewing others' knives it's grown on me.

PROS

The Osage Orange! Much more dramatic than I imagined. Superb W&T, spring just right - should suit most tastes (it's certainly no nail extractor!). Excellent balance, no blade-play, totally centred, sharp, a formidable Wharncliffe. Spring flush on open and close, I think raised or sunk springs on open or closed are shoddy. This is great.

CONS

The Osage Orange I hear soon turns a dull brown...:barf:.tip of blade slightly exposed when closed (take care of that) Slight gaps but mild. Those sink hole pins, I knew it would be like this from the pix. I've been reprimanded for criticizing GEC for doing this but I hate to see it on stag, bone, acrylic or wood and GEC is a serial offender on this point. Flush or domed always superior. But, I suppose most people don't mind, I do.....

Alli in all, a pleasant surprise. Thanks, Will

I had to bring this thread back up, as my 3rd 47 from this run is to be delivered today, and well, I'm pretty excited!

I have so far received a Tidioute 47 in OD green micarta, and a Northfield in blood red jigged bone.

While I think the Northfield looks the best so far with the covers and lined bolsters, I'm not a fan of how they did the blade, with the swedge coming back over the nail nick, making it a PITA to open. I find the Tidioute much easier to open, and I prefer the look of it's blade over the Northfield.

Today I'll be rescuing the GEC version in maroon micarta from the cold dark mailbox and welcoming it into my home. I think it will be a good compromise between the two I have already, where I'll get the classier bolsters of the Northfield with the blade profile of the Tidioute.

Waiting on my GEC#47 SS also, I have a SFO Tidioute version that I very much enjoy too.
