Who's excited for #47 Viper?!

The Osage Orange is not moving nearly as fast as the OD and Stag Bone, but they are all very popular. The Lava Northfield has poked its head out, so I expect Northfields to hit the ground running on Monday.

it is where I bought mine. ive been watching the count. a lot faster than the OD.

After watching a #47 used in demonstration on the tour yesterday, I bought a SFO Viper in bone until the ones I saw get released.

Got to say I'm really looking forward to these.

#47 Viper Tidioute Burnt Grizzly Jig Bone

Northfield
#47 Viper Northfield Blood Red Jig Bone
#47 Viper Northfield Che Chen Rosewood

I'm going for the #47 in Northfield Che Chen Rosewood, and the GEC in American Elk.

Going to be 2 beautiful knives.

Can I ask why? I have a #92 wharncliffe which I quite like but I have been looking (well, drooling) at the Vipers. So what made you decide the #92 was better than the #47 for you?

I simply found that I preferred the handling and grip better on the #92, just always felt like I had the Viper upside down. Felt really great on a draw cut or peeling something.

I'm waiting to see pics of the Osage in the wild! I'm also tempted by the lava acrylic. And GEC's Instagram photo of the blood red jigged bone looked straight delicious. I'm carrying this one on wharncliffe wednesday.

My osage is in my PO Box as I write this. Maybe I will get a family pic... I picked up two Tidioutes from this run and two Northfields from the last run. I thought the pull on the new run was softer but I think the Northfield blade design (with deep swedge and mirror polish) simply makes it harder to open.

Mine came today! This knife is beautifully done. Only flaws I can find are not being flush at halfstop and pull being a bit firm. Those aren't even flaws though just being very nitpicky! I can tell this will be stuck in my pocket for a long time:)

Can't wait for the patina to start setting in.

Osage Orange. Very nice wood and the first I have had on a knife. I will be looking for other patterns in this wood.

I just got mine today, a Tidioute in stag cut bone, and the pull is definitely softer than the 3 (1 Northfield and 2 Tidioute) I got from the 1st run.

Edit: I just checked, and the pulls are actually not much different. What's different is that this one has good w&t and the earlier ones have great w&t.
Edit2: I gave the new one a thorough washing and now it too has great w&t just like the others. :)

Regarding the nail nick on the Tidioute and Northfield blades. Is the nick on the Tidioute deeper because it lacks the swedge of the Northfield or are they the same?

The Northfield nick is shallow because it's inside the swedge. The shallow nick, deep swedge, and mirror polish make the 47 Northfield "less easy" to open than the Tidioute version by a long shot. I wouldn't say it's hard to open, but there is certainly a discernible difference.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I bought a Tidioute 47 on the first run, Indian Paintbrush, but sold it and now regret it. Probably will buy a Tidioute in Peachseed Chestnut.

I got an Indian Paintbrush Tidioute in the last run and a Blood Red Northfield on the way. I'm curious to compare the two and decide which to keep, as i'm not sure I need multiples of this pattern.
