Who's gotten their 5.1 Starter?

Yes, I did. Near the end, I suspect, as the only thing left was 20CV; all 3V was sold out.

Now I am wondering if I should just get mine in 20CV because I don't want to have to constantly worry about corrosion. If I am in the US I would definitely offer you a trade.

I would probably take you up on it. The thing is, I don't think 20CV is so brittle that I need to worry about it, nor do I think 3V is so corrosion prone that you need to worry about it. As long as you don't leave your 3V laying around in salt air without any care at all. There are YouTube videos where Guy left 3V blades out in the weather for months. Yes, they corroded, but not enough to destroy them. And that was for months, as I recall. In the winter. Through multiple snows and melts.

Not only that, it was the "old" heat treat. The new heat treat recipe, as I understand, didn't rust at all after a month in the weather.

I've had 3V, from another manufacturer, exposed tangs rust from contact with sweat from my hand, but I have no idea how the "new" 3V from Survive! will do for me.

Worst case scenario, it's just surface rust on a thick knife, it shouldn't actually damage anything and should clean up easily. In my experience, when 3V does rust, it's just little shallow spots on the very surface of the knife.

I am in the tropics where average humidity is very high and I am residing near the sea. Not too sure how long the 3V with the new heat treat will hold up? So far my INFI steel is doing ok but my friend has complained of his rusting, most likely due to sweat. According to Busse, their INFI is almost as good as stainless so I am using that as a yardstick for gauging the possible corrosion resistance of the 3V. Currently I don't own any 3V so there is no other reference for comparison.

here they come! (in my head this is like a tidal surge coming into the mouth of river....slow steady but ever building and powerful...too much coffee...)

I've been busy taking care of sick family (self included), but just got two e-mails
