Better take that Southard off the leather before it rusts.

I haven't read through all 7 pages of this thing, but you're making it too hard. Buy a dishwasher safe plastic cutting board (or three) and be done. You don't abuse your knife, and you don't have to kill yourself to clean it.

That is exactly the answer I didn't want to hear.

Why have a knife at all if I can't use it???????

Just to keep in my pocket?..sheesh!

I don't live in the woods. i don't clean fish and hunt deer. I use a flushing toilet at home. I have blenders, rice cooker, dishwasher and a microwave.

What the hell do i need a pocket knife for then? For fun that is why. If I stocked my house full of knives for each use i would spend a heck of a lot less and get more done. A simple Vic in teh pocket or a multitool would accomplish the rest.

But me.. I like nice strong hard use folders like a Para II, ZT 0560, Spyderco military, Hinderr, strider , sebenza ect ect........................I just want a rust free version with easy to sharpen steel thats all.

Sounds like you need some practice sharpening? I use my Para2 all day every day, and touch it up each day whenever I feel like it. Not because I have to, since s30v can hold an edge for days of use, but because I like the feel of sharpening. Very Zen. Anyway, from what I gather yyou'd rather be forced to stop and sharpen your knife after every use to keep that edge, than have a knife that is both easy to sharpen and has much greater edge holding ability and rarely have to sharpen? BTW I cut food on ceramic all the time, scrape my knife against steel accidentally while cutting quite often too. Still never have a problem.

Apparently both of those are to hard for the OP. And for $h*ts sake learn how to spell "the". REMEMBER: "h" before "e". I'm not usually a grammar nazi but damn after 7+ pages it gets annoying.

Sigh......

I'm not sure what to think about this thread. colubrid, you start this thread with a specific agenda and idea. Then when people don't agree with your idea, you keep arguing the same points ad nauseum. And THEN, you start posting a bunch pictures of pricy knives that have no bearing on the current converstaion at all. I seriously doubt that most folks here are going to be so impressed by your collection to suddenly start agreeing with you.

I've been collecting knives for a number of years. In that time I've never left a knife out in the weather and never left food globed on one. I use my knives appropriately to their design. I don't cut drywall with a gentleman's folder, but have done so several times with my ZT's and other heavily built knives. I don't abuse my knives, but USE them. And all these years, I've NEVER had a knife rust. In fact, if you use a knife appropriately to their design, I'm guessing that you would have to WORK to get one to rust. All that said, I DO use Spydie Salts on my boat. Again, just another example of the right tool for the right job.

I just don't understand the argument.
