Why an Esee-5 and not a BK-2

Now if only you will admit that the BK-2 is the ESEE-5's biatch will we grow to be true brothers.
:D

A BK2 would eat an ESEE5 and crap out a bunch of ESKabars. How do you think Kabar is getting those? They just keep feeding a few BK2s some ESEE5s and cleaning the cages every couple of days.:D

I'd like to add another pro if I may:

-Rowen heat treat

(Disclaimer: The BK2 is a quality knife, I just have a lot of faith in the Rowen heat treat)

If I had to pick a winner on the steel then I'd go with Becker - I have a lot of respect for Rowen because he knows his stuff, but I also have a lot of respect for Toooj because he knows his stuff too. The reason I'd give the nod to the Becker is because of the better steel (1095 CroVan) but I don't think the difference would be enough to sway me either way - they would be very close with Becker only having a small advantage on the steel.

ESEE 5 because ESEE has better, no questions asked warranty and I just feel that I can fully depend on an ESEE more than I can a Becker.

I would never choose either over the other on this basis. From what I can tell both companies stand behind their product 100%. The only advantage on the ESEE warranty is that they cover users deliberately wrecking the knife, but if something is wrong with either then it WILL be sorted by the company that makes it. I am comfortable with buying either brand.

I personally think that the ESEE-5 mainly has the advantage on the micarta scales and the superior sheath and that the BK-2 mainly has the advantage on the price. There are some other differences but the most important factors to consider would be the price vs scales & sheath.

The whole reason I even know what the ESEE 5 is, is because of the BK-2. I had my heart set on the BK-2 until I saw the fivey boy. First, the looks alone won me. Second, the warranty, and that's why I bought an Izzy right after that. Awesome knives, a great community here, owners that read this and take our opinions to heart. What more? Very happy with my purchases. I wanna get my hands on a original (Rowen) H.E.S.T. before they are no more. I love ESEE...& my wife knows it...

I've answered this question before in other threads, but I guess I'm a sucker for this topic.

As an owner of both, honestly, I think it's hard to compare the two. I've said it before and I'll say it again, other than 1/4 inch thickness and similar length, I think that's about all they've got in common. I know that's why they're so often compared to one another, but honestly if you had both and had the chance to use them, they're really very very different knives in my opinion.

The 5 is going to be better at certain tasks than the BK2 and vice versa. It's a stalemate really.

Which do I like better...the 5. And not when compared to the BK2 necessarily. I like the 5 best out of all of my ESEE's and the couple Becker's I have. I've got other brands too other than ESEE and Becker, that said, the 5 is still my favorite. It's just the knife that clicks with me. Everybody has that one knife that suits them best and for me without question, it's the 5!

I know for a fact that there are people in this thread who say that they prefer the ESEE-5 over the BK2, and don't own and have never used the BK2.

Anyone want to provide a ESEE-5 - BK2 passaround for these poor folks?:D

I own both. The BK2 is my preference. But really, I wouldn't care either way if I needed to grab a knife I could count on in a pinch.

.

That won't happen...

The majority of ESEE=5 owners like me won't give their 5 up, and the majority of BK-2 owners won't admit to owning it...

;)

How much you wanna bet there are more BK2 owners than ESEE5 owners in the world, willing to admit to it?

Hmmmmmmmmmm?

Want to wager?

I think the BK2 might win, because after about an hour and a half of searching the internwebs, there aren't any ESEE5s out there (excluding a couple "not so familiar to me" sites that I'm going to call tomorrow). Honestly, I did find a couple but not plain edge/black...

One in the hand is worth two in the bush?

btw, newbie here, just got an Izzie and HEST, looking to round em out. You know, like golf clubs :D

Are we allowed to multiply the ESEE 5 owners total by 15 or not really? :p

Fine, I'll take that bet. Now go out there and get all the BK-2 owners in the world to sign a petition or something. Hurry, you have to have the results in two weeks!

I know it is probably allot of work, but it will be woth it in the end. So go for it.

I'll let you know the wager amount when you're done:thumbup:

If Moose and Tony want to put something together, ESEE will offer up a 5 to put with a BK-2 for a passaround comparison.
