you look like you're having too much fun, lol.My ears are burning.... MagnaCut, about .140 " thick, 38" long, with a 27 3/4" blade. Skipped cryo, for max toughness.
Well maybe a few more…It doesn't seem to me that people are making any more "thick knives" now than they did historically.
That blade is 3” tall and over 11.5” inches in length. That looks like a meat cleaver?
yup, weight is good for chopping (with a short blade) (IF you need a short blade) other types do that with a long/thin/tall blade
It was a commission over a year ago for a gentleman who wanted to own the largest David Mary Custom knife ever made. I asked him if he would like to also own the world’s largest MagnaCut knife and he was agreeable to the idea. Sadly I lost touch with him. I hope he’s okay.
so you're saying there's a chance...![]()
A variable speed grinder does wonders! Grinding fast tends to heat the thin blades up way too quick. It’s possible, a pass then dunk in water, etc etc. but I can dial my speed! Makes it much easier!I believe most makers would struggle making a truly thinly ground blade. So they make thick ones and tell us they are better that way.
I like it.![]()

This is about 3/8” thick. It’s a Carothers Delta 3V knife that is designed to be a rescue/breaching knife. This is a literal shapened pry bar. It’s thickness is needed to take the abuse of being struck with a flat head axe.
