Why are TOPS knives so freaking expensive?

I didn't look up the entire line up of products by TOPS but what I saw wasn't too awful bad price wise. Some of their stuff is 154CM steel I see.

I think the company that shocked me the most price wise when I first read about them and wanted one was Mission knives. Now thats expensive production knives in my book. Mostly I've found when production knives get that expensive I start looking for a custom maker to do one instead for around the same money.
 
Mission's A2 fixed blades are comparable with most high end production, the Beta-Ti is expensive, but they have the market on that. Their folders are expensive though, the A2 one is ~10% more than a Sebenza which is really pushing the custom market hard.
