Why Busse over less expensive knives?

Go with the MMHW if that's what suits you. They make some really cool blades and Ted is a no nonsense kind of guy. I know several INFIholics that also own MMHW.
What cracks me up is guys all over the forums (here too), talk about how, 'I own such and such custom or high end production, but carry xxx low end whatever.
The best knife (or whatever) in the world is what you have on you when you need it, not sitting in a safe at home. I carry the best I can afford, cause when I need it RIGHT NOW!, what's sitting in the safe is of no value to me.
You set your own values.
Rob
hey wet, since when did you get so damned scentsable  ;)

I'm sure you have heard of these knives. My hard use story starts out with me putting a hole in soft plastic. During these hard use cutting chores, I noticed a chip in the blade, approx. one half inch down from the tip.
Needless to say for the money that I spent, very disappointed in this kind of performance  :( . Called the shop and was told, "that knife was not made for that purpose". Needless to say I have lost all confidence in these so called hard use knives!!

So far no problems with the performance of my numerous Busses, in Alaska you really might find yourself in a life and death situation. So ask yourself, how much is your life worth? Not much, buy a cheap knife that might fail when you need it most or buy a Busse and bet your life on the Busse performance. :D My rant is over, thanks !!! :D :D :D

I think Rob makes a good point. It sure seems like many folks thing that if you own Busse, you will turn your nose up at other makers. Not so for many here. AFAIK Jerry has yet to make any of us sign a exclusivity contract to buy a blade. :) Oh no, I think I just gave him and idea. :)

I am in awe! Where else can you go on any forum and not get ripped to shreds for asking a simple question like that? Here is the greatest group of guys I have ever had the fortune of knowing.

Reminds me of one of my Harley tee shirts: "If I had to explain it, you wouldnt understand" it seems kinda blunt, but says it all, one ride and your hooked. :D;):p

There isn't much to be said that hasn't already but I love how these knives take all the mean and nasty things that you can think of doing to them and turn around shave hair as if to say "Please, what else ya' got" all that and Jerry and the Busse crew know that a tool is only as good as the use you get out of it. I have yet to see one of them see a blade that has had the hell kicked out of it and say "Jeez, use the right tool for the job" :D NUKE ON!!

When you own a busse, you understand. Just like the stickers "It's a jeep thing". ;) :D

Huh??? Alaskan??? Heyyyyyyy....Whatsss happening? :D

Forgot to mention...The main reason why I buy Busses?

Because of Jerry. It's amazing if you go back to the beginning, to see when others tried to start flame wars (not saying your are ;) ) how Jerry was EXTREMELY respective and well spoken (nothin' but facts), He hosts contests and makes purchasing more enjoyable (if you're quick :D ), Shows excellent customer service, is always glad to get a call, continues to share the worlds best knives with us, HAS proven them to be the strongest without any challengers, and he likes bacon :p

I could go on, but I think that if you give busses a chance, you'll be pleased. And if not, you won't have a problem reselling it

many if not most here on bf are searching for the perfect edc. i found mine in a busse public defender. i thought the price was fair when i bought it but when i got it i knew this was the knife i have been looking for since i started this never ending hunt. i would pay more than twice the amount for the pd now knowing that it is the best edc i could ever find.
man that's cool.

Now, if I had owned any of them Busse knives, I would have known what you guys were talking about! :D

I am not going to spend my time trying to convince anyone what they should or should not spend their money on. How do I know your wants and needs better than you do? 99.99% of the humans on this planet have no need of any extreme performance knife like a Busse. This probably includes you. (It includes me too but I buy them because I WANT TO, and I have the means to, not because I NEED one.) From your comments I would guess that you've never spent more than $200 on a knife regardless who made it, so I think the question you're trying to ask, but perhaps not able to or not aware enough to, is "why should I spend that much money on a knife when there are so many knives out there for much less money?" to which my reply would be, if you have to ask, then you can be confident that you don't need one. It's that simple.

Is it an example if reputation, supply, and demand, and over pricing?
Why would you ask a question like that here? Don't you think we might be just the slightest bit biased? Or are you just that trusting of total strangers over the internet? Go hunt down someone like Cliff Stamp and ask him. Heck, maybe my mentioning of his name will bring him here to post a response.

A inflated price for what they are IMO.
Are you just trolling or looking for a fight, coming into the Busse forum with a statement like this?!? If you think a man's wife and kids are ugly, are you the type of guy who would tell him so while you're a guest in his home? Anything that isn't INFI is a waste of MY money, AT ANY PRICE, IMO. Don't worry though; I'll take your opinion for what it's worth. ;)

I'd go with a MMHW, or a few others for a lot less money IMO.
Sounds like a perfect match for you. I don't think anyone here would discourage you from buying them. I think you've got it all figured out, and you're just testing us to make sure.

Let me ask you guys this. Last year sometime I was this close >.< to loaning out my Active Duty on the passaround forum. Right about that time I needed to come up with some cash so I sold it. :(

What do you think would be a good passaround model to try?

All anyone needs to know about Busse Combat is that the girls in the office(me) are funny and cute!! :D lol!!! Sorry guys.....just trying to lighten things up!

Trust Kassi to state the obvious!

And the ladies!

And Jerry!

And Jennifer!

Not CBL though.

Cheers,
BJB :D

Where's Herbieduck? You started this,Know lets here what you have to say!You have seen what this great group of people are saying about busse, lets here your side! Or are your going to hide behind your screen!

In reply to my open pie hole:
X-Head great comments, and I must say too many others also to try to mention you all. I got the notion to start this thread when someone offered me a Busse police recruit in trade. Did some checking around the for sale forum, and found one for $175. and another for $200. Saw a picture, and thought why so much? Plain looking blade, no scales, just some holes in the handle, a kydex sheath. There must be a good logical reason. Now I think have a little better idea.
You guys love your Busse's. I can tell there must be a good reason, and not just for their good looks. Not.
I figure if it's 5160, D2, S30V, 154cm, on, and on, etc. etc. and it looks, and feels good, it must be good.
I know I'm in the wrong place to hear from the probably few Busse haters. I doubt there are too many that have a good reason anyway.
A good reputation is most always harder to earn. No doubt Busse has one of the best.

Well as much as I'm a trade junkie, I'm looking forward to giving one a try.
Thanks to all for your input, and has been educational, and entertaining to boot.

I can tell you the most likely reason:
They don't want to think they paid to much for their knives,
when they really did. (seriously)
:p

Great Job Guys,
Everyone at the shop is proud and grateful for the responses you guys have been putting up on this thread. A lesser group of people would have turned this into a fight and alienated a new person just for asking a question. Excellent work HOGS.
Thanks,
Garth
