Why carry an expensive knife?

Sorry to contradict your assertion that Buck 110s coming out of the Custom Shop don't have the "4-Ever Warranty". Plus most reputable custom knife makers will stand behind their work for as long as they live.

Then you agree with me. What happens when they retire?

Looks almost as nice as my WWII Camillus. Mine came from a Garage Sale for $10, and has a great story of where it was around world!

Yours cost how much??????????
'nuff said' :D

(BTW, it is a handsome knife, BTW)

Well, let's see a photo of that Camillus so we can judge for ourselves.

No, I'm not going to tell you how much I paid for it, but I will say it's a whole lot less than the $900 it would cost today.

Then you agree with me. Show me a warranty that will guarantee another knifemaker's customizations. If the part that fails was not oem, then the best they can do is return it to oem, or tell you wou're SOL... What happens when the knifemaker retires?

Will happily be doing so after getting the blade back with the new finish on the blade, which, btw, has been done gratis from another BF member, because he's just a good guy. His name will be on the post to give him proper credit for the amazing work he did!

Josh: 12-9 (9" blade), #14 grind, #25 handle (yep, that's the leather spacers/stag/leather spacers), nickel-silver fore and aft.

Beautiful.

"In some ways it is kind of like the difference between a Hyundai, a Lexus, and a Ferrari. (Without the maintenance headaches of a Ferrari. ) It comes down to attention to detail, fit and finish, quality of materials, machine finished versus hand finished, plus pride of ownership."

The Ferrari is more likely to put you in the poor house if it breaks, and will be more likely to the abuse inflicted by the overcompensating dude thinking it's indestructable.

You can by a Nokia Cell Phone for $80 made on the same line as the $20K 24ct Gold Plated, leather bound, diamond emblazened Ferarri phone. Both are still made with the same parts. The both are functionally identical, and both have the same warranty, same life span. The $80 and 20k phones, once they die, are both paperweights!

Knives are the same, unless they are preserved in the box in a humidity and temerature controlled environment, which will only prolong their life for a while. Only then are they an investment, otherwise they're a the same value long term, the $300 Emerson or the $50 SAK.

I'm not sure what kind of "maintenance" headaches you're talking about. See http://archive.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=7&article_id=4702&print_page=y.

'Nuff said.

By the way, has it seen any use? Looks amazingly fresh for a 'user'.

(it really is a great knife, seriously)

I just enjoy stirring the poo a bit..... (and with my dog, I always have plenty to stir......) :grumpy:

Maybe that's because that pic was taken within the first week I owned it. Yeah, it's seen use, but to be honest, not much.

Yup. And I still use mine, AND can pay my mortgage, car payments, power bill, phone bill...............

You're just being a troll if you automatically think that if someone has an item you can't afford, that they can't afford it as well, and therefore they must be fudging payments on other things to make purchases with. We get the point, you like cheap things. I think you've said enough about it. Sorry, I just don't like that you're not able to accept a different view in the least bit. But whatever, stir your shit and enjoy.

I know an awesome knifemaker who will work on other people's work. He did this to a Super CQC7.

Did this to a normal 7.

I would trust him to service or modify a custom by anyone.

So basically you're a self-confessed Troll? Thanks for making that perfectly clear.

FYI: DNFTT!

Speak for yourself. . . . :D

They aren't bad at all if you order them from Randall, all one has to do is wait for along time. :D

No I don't have any, personally I never had the itch to own one, but they are great knives.

I guess because why own it if you are not going to carry it. Many folks carry knives that are expensive to them.

Is this my accountant or my tax guy? I know you're one or the other, 'cause nobody knows that much about me but them

Seriously, I don't envy those who can and do spend that much and still pay to live well, as I do my best to live within my means and still have my toys too. Just a difference in what our toys are. I love my blades, but have to keep them reasonable in $ if I want to afford the hobbies I am blessed to have time and talents to enjoy as well.
