Why do people put lanyards on their knives?

Personaly I make and use them on things to retain, index, identify, or manage some of my toys.

On a small flashlight I might have a flat fob on it so I know what light is in my hand, or something more to hold onto.

I have a bright red lanyard on my G2Z with the P61 bulb in it. This way my fiacee knows knot to use it to find cat toys. :(

In a self-defense situation, I'll let it hang off an index finger if attacted and grip it tight. Then I'll swing it about me in the air and it should keep attackers at bay. Useful with almost any weapon.

YMMV:rolleyes: :D

You are not kidding me are you? You swing a knife by a lanyard over your head like a lasso to scare people away?

Do you find the need to do this often?

In other words sog is very talented and I wouldn't try to do what he described without years of intense mall ninja training first.:D ;)

:D Imagine a real legend in our midst. And we can say we were there when...

I'd be much more worried by a person that held on to a knife in a way that would lead me to think that he knew how to use it.

I have tried different versions of a lanyards in various styles. Ultimately, it's what grabs you.

However, the main reason is because when the knife slips from your hand, you have about half a second more to grab it by the lanyard before it lands, woefully, tip first on the cement floor.

I don't like lanyards or fobs on my knives.
The only time I ever attach a lanyard to my knife is when I'm on or around water (lake, pier, beach, river) or when I'm climbing (mountains or trees or up on the roof), and then I have one end attached to the knife and one end attached to my belt.

Allen.

THat's odd, pop spitting usually doesn't happen until the person catches the business end of my rifle-on-a-lanyard.

Note sure what that is all bout. Hope it's a joke:confused:

Anyways... I like small laynards on my folding blades. My Vic Farmer, or my Queen Mountain Man for instance. It makes it easy to pull out of your pocket. This is the knot I use:http://www.knifeart.com/how.html

Also As far as Chord wrapping Your Fixed baldes you might try a technique called The "frech Twist" Its hard to explain but basically involves a halfhich at every rotation, this makes a very nice tight wrap and with practice your can control where the ridge ends up so it suits your grip, I also will sometimes wet leather or chord and stretch it while rapping then dry it quickly to shrink it making the whole thing tighter.

Apparantly you have never had a multi-attack in defense of home and hearth as I have. It is a martial arts self defense technique I taught in a dojo.

Ummmm... Okey Dokey:rolleyes: I hope your joking. If not.... good luck. You will need it;)

sog's concept is sound, I use lanyards on my throwing stars all the time. That way I don't have to carry so many because I can tug on the cord to retrieve them from my covertly deanimated attackers.
