Why do people put lanyards on their knives?

Really? Well, thanks for the correction :o

You are not wrong in stating that sifu and sensei are sometimes substituted for Master, but more commonly these words refer to teachers of the martial arts. When I took Shito-Ryu my Sensei was a Sandan (3rd degree balck belt). Masters are Judans (10th degee black belts). He was a long way from a Master. He was however the Master of the dojo, by no uncertain terms.

I can't think of a thread that made me laugh this loud. I really hope this "Dues Paying Member" is a regular with a great sense of humor.

I think someone around here needs to speak up about paying dues (so it might as well be me). Now (due to your post) I think this is why I am taking a lot of heat in other areas since I put that in my sig file (your post proves it out). :)

The other forum is getting pretty bad for interrupting ads (no dues there no free ride either). I have almost abandoned it.

We can afford hundreds even thousands for knives but we cannot afford 10 bucks for a nice place to talk about them? I can understand many not paying because they can't afford $10 or they are not that interested in knives. When I see long timers showing thousands in knives, but wont step up with $10 to talk about them, o'well. This post isn't going to get me any kudos, I am pretty sure, but I am not after kudos. :)

I appreciate that you are paying the $25 to buy and sell knives (I assume). Although I am not interested in buying a knife, at this forum right now, does not mean I shouldn't help pay for this site.

Have a nice day:D

There are two reasons that I sometimes use a lanyard. One is to keep a knife from flying off if it slips from my hand during chopping. The other is to loop it around my belt so I won't lose the knife when walking through the bush or climbing.

Are you serious about this knife-on-lanyard-swinging-attack/defence-technique, or is it a joke I am not getting? I know what the proper name for numchuks are, I have been pacticing ITF Taekwondo for 4 years now. I wish you could carry "nunchuku" leagally, and I have carried them illeagally before when I just started MA and didn't know they were illeagal.

4 years in MA and you still call them "numchucks"? That's absurd. This is gone far enough. Numchucks ha. This is the level I am dealing with here? If no one here accepts that "Numchucks" is the street name than this site is hopeless. Nunchaku is illegal here unless you are carrying them to or from class.

Thanks for contributing() to a great site.

I only called them numchucks because I knew that someone with no MA knowledge that read this thread would possibly be confused by the real name, as this is a knife forum and not a Martial Arts forum. It is also easier to say numchucks than nunchaku and more people will know what you are talking about, so it is a habit, is that so absurd?

OK, I would like to try a lanyard on my new Benchmade Vex, which one should I use? It is a tip-down knife and I want a reletively thin lanyard so it won't be bulky in my pocket, I am thinking of using the CR knot or something similar but I am not sure how to tie the loose ends up, any suggestions?

main reason for a true lanyard is when working high up or over water . sailors used them because the number of knives that were lost without lanyard alos if it's classic lanyard much the same reason as spec.ops troops use lanyards on their pistols to retain them so perps can't get em n use them on the carrier

I don't like lanyards or fobs on my knives.
The only time I ever attach a lanyard to my knife is when I'm on or around water (lake, pier, beach, river) or when I'm climbing (mountains or trees or up on the roof), and then I have one end attached to the knife and one end attached to my belt.

Allen.
a guy who knows purpose of lanyard in most cases , tom

Apparantly you have never had a multi-attack in defense of home and hearth as I have. It is a martial arts self defense technique I taught in a dojo.

& never have i heard such crap , not in any of the dojos or dojangs etc i've ever been in & i've been around some of the best commandos & fighters in the world :barf:

O M G....... ok this is um.. well i don't really know anything much beyond army combatives but this knife flinging around on a lanyard buisness is just a tad over the top. how, no, why would you ever even try something like that?

oh nevermind. i don't wanna know. just forget i was even here.

Count me in on that. I always felt my .45 or a shotgun was best for home defense..... until now. Can't beat the "Nija knife lanyard circle of death" move;)

at least the laughing won't kill us if i saw that move i think i'd give myself a heart attack laughing

If you liked the still shots, check this out.

I've practiced this with a Clav (thick, short, hardword stick with a lanyard) but don't have the skill or courage to try it with a knife yet. I'll bet this guy could take care of a whole gang in just a few seconds.

but i must say this guy never heard of the equal n opposite reaction law of physics . let him hit something n see what he does. i'd a shot him when he first started playing with that thing .
