Why do protestors always have a fire going?

Well, if any of you are familiar with the G20 "protest" that occured in toronto this year..

They found a "peaceful protestor" with body armor, and a backpack full of bricks, molotov cocktails, a large axe and gas mask.

How many were cops this time? :D

I can tell you from first hand professional knowledge that protestors/demonstrators do just that. They attend with an agenda or a platform and wish to be heard and remain peaceful knowing if they don't we will arrested the. If they are arrested their message does not get delivered.

Fires are started by persons wishing to cause chaos. Chaos receives response and resources. Chaos also guarantees attention by everyone. We are all naturally drawn to fire. They start their fire as a focal point and then travel elsewhere and cause more damage and anarchy.

If you ask peaceful protestors they hate these goofs because it draws away from the issue at hand.

I've got to go with this. I've never been bent enough to protest, though Union marches/strikes could be considered protesting I guess. And I'm always the one trying to light SOMETHING on fire at those... Just a base urge I'm guessing. Get mad, set something on fire. It's a show of force, "I'm small and little, but I'm angry and look what I can do!!!!"

Exactly right. A protest is a peaceful event. The last thing a protester wants
is a police crackdown (cracked skulls are a distinct possibility).
Here in my country, students are prone to "protest" for just about anything: the G20, the El Niño phenomenon, the increase in the cost of fuel, etc. The idea is not to offer a constructive proposal but TO RIOT, hence, the stone throwing (usually against the riot police) and the burning of tires, in the middle of the roads.

self immolation burns me up!

Maybe look at it this way:

Why do the press always show you a picture with fire in the background?

There were a million people protesting in France the other day, did they all immediately start fires?

MMnnn, could it be that we're supposed to associate the right to protest with lawlessness?

I'm not saying it was or anything like that...but wouldn't be a bit surprised if the fire was actually started by a member of the media for better ratings.

Lately I tend to by-pass a lot of the "news" they want to show me and look for things they aren't talking about.

But they actually do have a purpose sometimes...the fires that is. (protestors never have a purpose-- they are just whiners) . Back in 70-71 the protestors/rioters/terrorists/(use your own descriptive noun) lit buildings on fire in Chattanooga, TN so the fire Department would come and they scould shoot the firemen. Worked for a while until the cops started shooting back:) I think mostly those fires are something to sing the protest songs around. You know...like "Sing around the campfire. We're the Campfire Girls!" Now there's something to talk about.:)

I think the protesters are just carrying on the tradition started back in the day . . .:D

Because a fire smells like victory!

Because fire represents the destruction of something existing.

Of course, people have fires at protests. Do you think that gathering around drums filled with water would have the same effect?

Ok anyone crying about protesters it's our constitutional right to protest.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting and establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. or abridging the freedom of speech, or of free press, or the right of people to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for redress or grievances.

Now that that is out of the way there is always a fire because every group of friends always has the one jackass that crosses the line. The guy that you go drinking with that drinks too much and makes an ass out of himself or starts a fight. The guy you always seem to still hang out with even though you know when he's going to make an ass out of himself. That's why even protests always have the one jack ass that starts a fire. Just like when a team wins a pro sports title someone always seems to flip cars.

It's actually freedom of speech. Just a minor point. Just irritates me like sand in my crack. Like people spelling amendment like this: ammendment. Not that you did that, mind you. :D

It's the primitive savage rising up.:)

Seems like whenever we get over-emotional and gather together in mobs, we have to grab some sticks and dance around a fire.

Hmm. Wonder if we have an experienced psychiatrist/psychologist in our membership. Perhaps they could suggest some reasons ...
