Why do shirivo bear knives so expensive??

Just an FYI: I finally got to test my F95NL as well. Passed the spine whacks and two hand pressure test with flying colors!!

Im wondering if this table of Shiros that this person could make them slip at was at a knifeshow or a gunshow. Was it a legit Shirogorov table or just some guy. There are some copies out there...just sayin.
Keep ‘em Sharp

That’s a good question. Gunshow garbage is all over the place, some of the clones look surprisingly like the originals and I just don’t trust those $30-$75 “Shiro”s. All that notwithstanding, I still don’t see spine-whacking as a legitimate folding knife performance test. Much like batoning re-bar, spine-whacking just isn’t an ordinary function that I put my knives to.

Im gonna have to try the “spinewhack” nonsense on my hand with my shiros when i get home. Im not a believer that they would slip. Only a test will tell. :/

Just to be clear: the spinewhack test is ridiculous.

I agree...said so in my post (#72). :D

Back on topic:

I did some digging around ever since I managed to snag an entry level F3 (2019 model with Elmax steel and G10 scales) off of a seller in Russia on another site. I got a really good deal for a US person despite having had to pay import tax which with shipping included brought the total to just under 450 US (this knife is at 695 list here with the 2 Shiro dealers).

My research on the Net showed that there's a Russian site (not the usual ones which pop up in the first Google page - but I will not name names, so those interested will have to do their own research) which has all their verbiage in Russian and also their list prices in P which is a symbol for the Russian Rubles. Inputing those prices (I don't know if factory, legit or what not but assumed as being so) in Google's currency conversion table verified my instinct that the serial (production) Shiros listed in the US are easily marked up by 40% as compared to their Russian prices. I am not rabble-rousing or screaming rip-off from roof tops because I know that these mark-up margins are simply not dealer profits but considering that perhaps dealer / distributor in the US gets their Shiros at even more reduced prices than the Russian listed dealer prices, I would definitely put the US mark-up in the Very, Very Healthy category!

Again, I am not encouraging or discouraging but just reporting back my layman findings and as my prior post a few pages back had stated, someone who had really gotten into Shiros heavily and then completely backed off for a while. TBT, I just missed not having any Shiro so I tippy-toed back in but much more gingerly this time!

ETA: just for levity, I researched some Spyderco prices on that same Russian site and noted that their Spydie-Paysan would translate to something like $775 US if you convert the price from Rubles!

if i could find a turtle for around 450 iid try it out , but the higher prices no

I am responding to this because to me it seems that the post was directed at me and my posting above yours:

First of all, I can not post and I will not post those Russian sites on Blade Forums as it's a No-No! Also, it is difficult to find them because your Google-Fu must be done in the .Ru domains and not .com. So for the heck of it I just checked and the list price of a Shiro F95T or Turtle in M390 and bronze ano is about 50,000 Rubles which comes to $775 U.S while the list price in the U.S. is $1095.

I have no idea as to what the taxes and yada, yada is in Russia but I have seen quite a few Turtles selling right here on BF.com less than $800 and most of them in lightly-used to Like-New description. If you are willing to wait and find a "used" one from the secondary markets where the original owner takes the biggest hit, you will find a Turtle at almost the Russian sites prices. BTW, a legit $450 Turtle is not gonna happen any time soon, anywhere!

maybe in the new year , ive seen some different shiro's now for sale a couple days ago here in for sale section that nobody bought so maybe the prices will take a turn toward a good price for what it is . i miss alot of knives id kinda like to have because i dont watch the sale section with my finger on the button lol . some people say i take it in like a minute from post , but thanks for explaining it , i know a old russian dude who is still ole school shoe and boot fixxer i will ask him to look into it , he has resoled my danners like 4 times

kinda looks like prices are coming down in the for sale sections and i see several posted that are passed over, maybe the market is taking a turn downward to reflect the over inflated prices over time

Either that or with the holidays just around the corner, people needing holiday money, they'll sell at a lower price than what they want to. Now, come tax refund time, you just might see the prices go back up.

when shiros first came out , i guarantee if they had put a 200 price tag on it , it wouldnt have took off . americans like their toys expensive or not . good knives yeah
priced right ? hell no lol . i kept getting mixed answers so i bought a turtle i had an out as my bro was having his 20 year anniversary so if i didnt like i could be good bro
and pawn it .i flicked it ,cut some paper , played with it , and in the end he loved the gift .

its weird some items with less marketing mak a killing where some go out of business , some people get off on it , its like that seafood restaurant in mrytle beach i cant remember
the name but their gimmick is talk shit to you the whole time . and people pack that place . then there is the little oyster bar on the inlet that has best oysters bar none but never packed ,which i like but their food is 10 times the food at the other place . i degress . lol

they are very nice gents folder but forr the coin you could have a custom made that nobody else has .

There are three conclusions that a reader of this thread could make:
1. Shirogorov knives are overpriced and worth it
2. Shirogorov knives are overpriced and not worth it
3. Someone should really make a Shirivo Bear knife

The best I can do is a Haribo Bear.

I know there was a point here, but I have no idea what it was

I had forgotten about this thread until receiving a notification about a new post. To reignite interest in this thread I will take things way too far: if you cannot understand why a Shiro costs as much as it does you are not a true knife aficionado and should stick to your gas station knives. Enjoy your Fourth of July with your favorite (insert brand) knife!

i think you missed it , i did buy one , ended up giving to my brother . its a smooth for sure , but not worth it at the
price point people are paying . i get it people get defensive when someone talks ill of something they paid to much for

but to each their own . there is only so much quality you can put in a knife .once achieved you are paying for name.

but its just a knife . as anything . people call me crazy for paying 10,000 for a szamboti pool cue , but i collect billiard
cues . but i will make money if i sell any . we all over pay for something .

Ah ok I must have. That’s fair enough. Sounds more like they just aren’t really for you which is why everyone has different tastes. I don’t care for CRK (gasp) not because they aren’t good knives, I just don’t like. & yes I’ve owned some.
