Why do shirivo bear knives so expensive??

Wow my thread delivered?? I don't get many of them. But the lockup convo is interesting maybe some tech info and more learning will continue.

Thats the cool thing about BF...discussions like this. :) I have a great deal of respect for WValtakis WValtakis and The Aflac Duck The Aflac Duck and I’m ok to discuss this. Im actually even ok if when I test my Shiros, if they slip, I will admit it! :) It’s ok to be wrong.

I must add...im not sure why Shirogorov designed the lockbar like this...not sure if its a gimmick, or because they were trying to make the “dropshutty” more appealing...now I’m super curious to whether my Shiros will slip. Oh i hope not...then i may be tempted to sell. :/

Edit to add: maybe i shouldnt test them, cause if they slip, id have to disclose that in the sales thread. ;)

That's ok, I'll buy it cheap and tweak the lockbar;)

I wish they had a D shaped pivot to keep from spinning during tightening and disassembly. Hasn't been an issue but I've heard they are a pain if they seize up with locktite.

Lockup has always been solid on mine.

I think you'll be fine and report back they don't slip. I'd even go so far as to say if you do the spine whack test on something other that your hand, say, like a hard cover book, it will be ok. ;)

My thoughts as well.

Just to clarify, this test will be with no additional pressure on the lockbar? As a frame lock is designed to function?

Of course! Absolutely. Ill even wussy flip it open. ;) But ya...i will test it everyway. On original flip, on a little more engagement, and all the way.

Edit to add: this will be the extent of my test. I will give it a sharp whack on my palm in all locked positions. Ill try the two hand pressure at all positions. But there is absolutely no way i am going to intentionally spinewhack my Shiros onto a table or rock or some dumb thing like that.

Edit again to add: i also will not be holding the lockbar.
Im just as curious as you all!

For the record, I've played around with lockbar pressure on a LOT of knives and one of the things I found on almost all of them is there is a point where the lockbar will JUST kick over enough to eliminate vertical play...almost all of them failed spine taps then but the dropshutiness was amazing;)

I agree with this. Even with enough two handed pressure almost any lock starts to flex or actually slides a bit and disengages. Lock geometry is a tough thing to get right...and it does seem like a lot of makers dont care to put in the time.

All framelock locks are susceptible to failure...the question is, do they fail the correct way?
