Why do so many people on this forum dislike sog

Wow, I must have bought the only good SOG Trident in the world, lol. Its long since been retired, but I carried it daily at work for three years straight. I worked in construction and believe me, I put that knife through total hell. Mud, dirt, sand, cutting on metal surfaces, you name it. Even some (gasp!) light prying. Never cleaned or lubed the thing, only blew the crud out of it with an air hose once in a while. But you know what? That knife NEVER failed me, lol! Sure it has a tiny bit of bladeplay, but I can't think of any way that it affected its performance. Edge retention seemed fine to me too. Most impressive though is that the blade still snaps open just as fast as day one!

Now, I am in no way a SOG guy or anything. Most of my knives are Benchmades. In fact, that Trident is the only SOG I've ever owned. But even if wanted to, I just cannot say anything bad about that knife! Pictured below with a Buck/Strider 889 (another "cheap" knife that has been used and abused) and you can tell its been sharpened more than a few times lol. Again, not trying to defend SOG or anything, but speaking from my own personal experience with the Trident (and I think nearly three years of daily carry at work counts for pretty good experience) I have to honestly say that this knife withstood some serious abuse and exceeded my expectations.

I really like my Vulcan and Spec Elite I, but never carry them. I've got much better knives in front of them. But they're well made with VG10 steel. The other ones I've owned we're not good. The fixed blades were kind of tactical silly looking and the folders were too. They also felt cheapish.

yes the vulcan and tomcat 3 are some amazing looking folders I was pretty bummed I had to return my two vulcans I was so close to ordering the tomcat but couldn't do it and ordered a contego and a 13960 benchmade for about $30 less than the two sogs.

i love sog designs and marketing tactics. its just theyre not serious about being a competator. they use mid grade steel and talk about how super ultra premium it is if their name is on it. also their warranty and stories ive heard of the fusion line is... wow.
if sog made M4/ titanium folders, laminated or just good heat treated spring steels or shock steels for fixed blades, they would be a competative option. i just think theyre for show and they are gimmicky marketers that arent passionate about knives. extrordinary tools and blades? in what way?
