why do the heavy duty bk knives come with such slippery handles?

I've heard people complain about this before, and it seems like for the most part, the people that complain about this haven't seemed to have used the grivory handles much.

The handle shape has a forward, and rearward guard, with palm swells. The shape alone will keep the knife in your hand. The handle texture is perfect IMO. It has enough grip to be useful, and enough slip that it doesn't cause blisters, even after extended use.

i lift weights almost every day. my hands are calloused. i laugh at these "hotspots."

this just justifies my original post. not everybody can handle a bk2.

Calluses will help if they're in the right spots, I used to work construction for a few years so calluses hands are something I am very used to. This will not eliminate hotspots from a poorly designed knife handle, which is why we love the Becker scales. so as beach master said, you should actually get out and use the knives a bit, more than just opening the mail. Only then will you understand what we are telling you. I also recommend doing the same with some cheap junk knives and see how those blisters feel despite your calluses of steel

yes. different exercises give different callouses in different parts of the hand.

1) if you choose the 2 as a chopper... you didn't choose wisely, therefore, it's operator error.

2) I don't care how calloused your hands are, you will still get blisters from hot spots on hand tools.

3) you obviously don't have much experience, so I would follow the wise words of "read more, and post less" because as of right now you're trolling.

This is a great sub forum filled with more experience, and knowledge than you could possibly imagine. Use your knife. Relax. Come back when you're ready to discuss topics like this with a little humility. This is not going well for you.

Well put!

.

theres a point to where you can callous your hands to the point where you cannot get blisters from hot spots using hand tools. the limit can be reached with the proper training of one is willing to dive into such things.

No. Blisters are caused by heat. Unless you've figured out a way to divert heat, blisters WILL happen. I'm 100% confident you're the type that can't be reasoned with. I have spoken.

One of the best things about Beckers are the handles, simple, purposeful, and comfortable. They just simply work, and work well. Over the top traction or jimping can ruin a knife IMO... Dan Keffeler said something along the lines of if you've designed your handles right you won't even notice them at all. This is a sentiment also shared by Ethan Becker to an extent, who stated in an interview if youre having to jimp or heavily texture your handles to get a secure and comfortable grip then you might need to go back to the drawing board. Both of these statements I fervently agree with. Sure some people have opinions and personal preferences but Becker's handles support multiple grips, over multiple uses, over a large platform of blades, do it comfortably, and they've been doing it for many years. Can't beat that...

Also as a father, and a knife fanatic who loves the outdoors, people please be safe out there. There's nothing better than teaching kids about the outdoors but please do not go wailing your knife around in the direction of your or other peoples children. Also be very mindful and respectful of the tool when you hand anyone a blade, young or old. No need for bubble wrap or a football helmet, just use common sense and be safe and have fun.

I am not trying to diss you proton, but have you ever been outside the computer-room/gym and tried out these "dangerous" and slippery handles?

Get your hands on a bk9 and start prossesing a pile of wood for a nights fire.
Then come back and speak your mind....

Please..

Have we really reached the point where you're trying to prove how tough and thorough your callouses are? I, for one, believe you. You posted in another thread how you hack through trees with any size pocket knife. I'm guessing that built plenty of callouses right there.

As for me, I've had enough trolling for the morning. At least, I HOPE for your sake you're just a troll and don't actually believe your own nonsense. Hitting my ejector seat.

no. it is called exercising your hands. just like doing sets and reps of pushups you could do sets and reps of knife wacking. imagine doing 100 sets of 25 swings at wood with the knife. you would build your tolerance up no doubt. you would further and further push the blistering threshold up. now imagine you worked your way up to doing 300 sets of 25 swings. you would even push that threshold even further to new heights where your blister tolerance is built up.

No... just, no. You have no idea what you're talking about. AT ALL. You do know your calluses were caused by the knurled grip of barbells, right? I was a bodybuilder for years. Trust me when I say I know all about this. Only reason I've humored you thus far is because you've offended this forum. Good luck in life. You'll need it.

callouses are a survival mechanism your body adapts to in opposition to stress. the human body adapts to all sorts of environmental conditions including blisters from whacking a knife.

None of the knives that you are talking about are choppers, whether the 2 or the 10.

And yes, we all realize that repeatedly using any tool can get your hands used to most any task.

I used to ride bmx. I would have bloody hands for a week, then they got tough.

I would work 12 hours a day with shovel and axe a few days a week.
For a few days a week I had bloody hands, then they got tough.

I used a khukuri in the forest for 3 hours STRAIGHT. I got hot spots and blisters. Then my hands got tough.

Then I used my personal knife design for hours and hours. My hands got blisters, but then they got tough.

I have lifted 6 days a week for the last 6.5 years. That CERTAINLY does nothing for hand calluses when it comes to other chores, which quickly becomes apparent if you actually DO other chores.

So, we know that you either don't actually go to the gym, OR you don't actually use your knives. Or both.

I said I wouldn't post here again awhile ago, but I just can't stomach blatant trolls, liars, or people who choose to live ignorantly.

If you want to live in a nation where the blades that you can carry are regulated by the government or something, go to about any other nation.

We don't need any more nannies here. And i have a feeling that few will have sympathy for your plea for for public safety categorized by the friction of a knife handle here.

Can you make due with any knife handle? Probably. Of your hands are made of stone, go purchase some crap knife. No one cares. Some people prefer to buy comfortable handles.
