Why do u like carrying a knife.

Mankind has survived over the millennia by the use of 2 things: Knifes and fire.

I carry both.

Because I need them more often then not. Plus i guess it´s a primal thing same like fire as Planterz has said.

Why do I carry a knife ?
Well to me it as always been a tool, I have had one in my pocket since as long as I can remember.
Then I got to thinking, maybe its something primal in us. Something that takes us back to mans first tool.
Then again maybe its like my wife says ( You bought what ?? Another toy again ) Something about men and the size of their toys ? I am still trying to figure that one out !!!
good luck gang

"Better to have and not need, than to need and not have."

I always have at least one blade on me, because you never know when you'll need to cut/open something.

Slide you missed the point here...well yeah to cut things, thats the obvious thing , but this question wanted you to delve a little deeper. If we all carried them just to cut things im sure we could find a knife in a drawer somewhere. No this question was to see what stired the blade passion. So if i fallowed your reply, its like saying i bought a ferrari to get to the camp grounds why else would i buy a ferrari.. you missed the point but its ok.

Hmmm - no deep motives for me. Often a kitchen drawer or my desk isn't handy, so I am glad to have a pocket knife.

Knives are cool toy/tools also. The craftsmanship, materials, and variety make them plain fun to own and use.

Because they are items of simple utility, quality and interest. Oh and they're the oldest tool in the book which is good enough for me.

I'm an only child and with being an only child comes a desire for and mentality of self-sufficiency. Carrying a knife helps allow me maintain that sense of independence and competence.

It's really simple...Real men just like to have a feeling of being able to take care of ourselves without depending on anyone else. We like tools, we like knives, we like watches that don't break down, we like torchlights, etc...

Real men prefer filson or drizabone or barbour or whatever compared to dolce & gabbana.
We prefer Omega watches compared to gucci.

We are creatures of efficiency and simplicity.

My point also but I'm ashamed that the word dolce & gabbana is even in your vocabulary.

It's funny but I'm in Canada for awhile and I did not bring any knives with me fearing it being taken at the airport and some how I feel naked, vulnerable, and handycapped. Its like wearing pants everyday and then walking around naked one day. It just feels awkward.

Reason I carry:

Someone once said, its better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

For me it represents a few things. I use my knife when im fishing or in the outdoors. So for me just carrying it makes me feel a little closer to those things when im not doing them. second in a weird way it kinda brings me back to my youth, because my first recolections of a knife were from cub scouts, where i had a swiss army type knife. To tell you the truth 99 percent of the time i never cut anything with it, but its nice just knowing its there. which i guess goes back to boyscouts where i took the oath to be prepaired.

It's deeply ingrained in human culture...sharp tools and fire are how our species survived and flourished.

Unfortunately they are also how we began to conquer and devastate.

I'm probably the only one here giving the unexpected response, and at risk of being stoned to death by fellow knife-nuts......,but.....:

I DON'T like to carry a knife. I carry it because it feels almost like a necessity in this crap society/world we live in these days. packing a blade makes me feel safer on the streets and more prepared when 'out there' for various cutting-jobs, but other than that I'd rather be living in a world where I could just leave 'em at home. But then again, I'd also wish there were no such thing as 'time', so I wouldn't have to wear a watch on my wrist all day..................wishful thinking I suppose :o

anyone else here who reluctantly carries a knife every day?

I carry a knife for a lot of reasons. I appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry involved in designing and making a knife. The different types of steel, materials and locks is really fascinating. The main reason is that a knife is a practial and useful tool to carry. I also carry a knife for SD.

I have no logical reason for carrying a knife. I often go 2-3 weeks before it is ever needed. That being said, I normally carry at least 2 knives but honestly have no reason why. I just feel naked without them.

I'll copy that. The reason why I carry and the reason I like to. :)

I carry a knife because I use it in my day to day life. Because being self sufficiant is important to me. I try to live a simple life and stay as close to nature as I can. The activites that I pursue in my free time require one.
I carry a knife because the men in my life when I was a child all carried one. In fact all of the men where I grew up "Ozark Mountains" carried one. As well as alot of the women. I carry a knife not only because I am a mountain boy but because I am an Americian and it is my right.

I have been carrying a blade since I was old enough to talk my parents into giving me one. They seem to be part of me somehow. Vikings it is said could not enter Valhalla wthout their blade being on them when they died.
