Why do you carry a big and a little knife together? Pic Heavy

This post goes out to those of us that carry 2 knives for a reason. I would like to see the many kinds of pairings of a large knife and a small knife and hear your philosophy behind your choices. Is your reason that you have a new knife and a beater? Or do you carry a smaller one so you don't scare your coworkers with your new cleaver? Or does each serve a purpose in your daily routine? I find that I sometimes choose 2 similar kinds of knives that look like a set or by the same maker.

Today my Daisho or pair that I am carrying is a set with the same maker Jens Anso involved in both designs.

I carry my CS Voyager XL sometimes because the place i live in (not in the US) isn't the safest and robbery etc are rather frequent, not to mention guns are illegal so a big knife is the way to go. It's relatively slip and lightweight so carrying it isn't a hassle

I carry a Spyderco Tenacious 3.4" blade with a zip tie wave mod and Talon grip tape for defensive purposes only so it's always razor sharp. And a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 with a 2.25" blade for daily utility purposes. I also carry a CRKT Minimalist scout style on my belt for a last ditch defensive option.

For me, I just like options. A smaller blade is better for going through mail and such. The larger better for going through cardboard, popping pallet straps, etc.

Sorry, don't have a pic with the 804 paired, but usually matched with the Spyder Positron. Or sometimes the Chaparral.

For me it's more often that the second carry is kept very sharp and used only when that's what's needed, or just to show people what sharp really is, as I offer to sharpen their knives for them for a small fee.

For general use I prefer a longer blade see the top two. 3.5 and 4 inch

But for those tuff plastic packages I carry the Spyderco Cricket and it is always there if I sense that pulling out the longer dude would cause fainting and panic in the room.

The Gerber folding box knife (bottom knife in photo) is magic and I am starting to carry it more, again, . . .
magic because I put a 0.4mm thick blade in it . . . yes you read that right friends and neighbors . . . less than half a mm. Unsurpassed for cardboard cutting (still not as good on plastic as the Cricket though)
I am carrying it more and more, again, because I am tired of cleaning box tape glue off my larger EDC.

So limit myself to ONLY two ? ? ? ?
Why would I do that :)

PS : sharp eyes will note the Boker Urban Trapper.
No I wasn't lying the other day when I said that I didn't own a flipper. Just got it.
Look for another 'bagger major mod coming in a week or two. I am waiting on supplies and equipment to arrive. ;)

Hahaha yes, if any robber with a little night market switchblade comes at me demanding cash, lets hope his finger will be gone in the next 2 secs after i pretend to be taking out my wallet. Safety first, yes? Although some come on motorcycles wielding machetes....still better to have something than nothing.

I used to always carry a larger and smaller primary edc folders, but since moving to traditionals for now I have cut back as I get smaller and larger blades on the same knife.
If I'm carrying a fixed blade as my primary edc then I will carry a small folder ( most are small as my Buck 110 is sad big a folder as I go with ) I like having a smaller blade on me for sheeple or just for when a smaller blade is better suited.
It used to be my buck 482 and my 283 Nano bantam everyday ( still do sometimes ) but currently it's just my new vic recruit and my 2.5" oal micro neck knife which I wear 24/7

So I pretty much carry multiple blades because no one tool can do it all. I'll also carry an extra knife if I get a new one in the middle of the week, I like to finish out that weeks edc but am not gonna wait to get the new one in pocket.

And I thought my town was getting dangerous because of all the people attempting to operate a motor vehicle with an Abby Normal brain.

That's Bradford is definitely on my short list
It should be. I wanted one for the longest time and finally found this 3v one on here and had to get it asap as I knew it wouldn't last and boy am I glad I did. At the same time I wish I wouldn't have because I want a 4, 5 and 6 now lol

Lately Iv been carrying a large Inkosi and a 0450cfzdp. I Use the Inkosi as my main blade. It takes 95% of cutting task on a daily basis. Unless I specifically need a smaller blade for any type of precision work, splicing wire cables, removing threads, sometimes cutting up fruit/apples, or sometimes I use my main blade so much during the day that it might be "dull" and I want a nice fresh edge for a specific task. I find it much easier to choke up on the tip of the blade on the 0450. It's nice to have a precision/slicer backup.

As of late Iv also been carrying/swapping out these with the above two.
Guardian on the belt for whenever I wear jeans. And if I plan on doing any particularly dirty work in mud or oil or I'm worried about "ruining" one of my other knives Ill use the 940-2 as my beater.

Damn I didn't even know they had then in 3v. Great buy though man

A big knife for big stuff and a small knife for small stuff ;)

The Ohta whittler is my food/clean/light stuff knife. The main blade is awesome for apples n such, and the Wharncliffe is great for clamshell packages and boxes, the pen blade is saved for when I need a pristine sharp edge. The damascus peanut lives in my wallet as a backup/sheeple friendly alternative.

These are accompanied by the large one hand opener of the day, for the heavy work. Today it's my Vallotton Sebenza for breaking down cardboard, strapping and what not.

Not that these are the only knives on me, there's always my Leatherman with the Spyderco Solo tucked in the sheath in case we go out for steak ;) If someone asks to borrow a knife, chances are they're going to get the leatherman unless I know they can respect a real knife.

For 20 years I carried a Knighthawk and Calypso for ranching. The fixed blade did the digging, scraping and hacking while the folder did the slicing, rope, leather, and twine cutting. I gave the Buck to a neighbor when I retired but I still have the prototype for a photo. Now that I'm retired and living on the water I carry a more refined folder and a small fixed blade for cutting bait and spreading butter etc.

Feeling pretty dumb. Just can't figure out how to post photos. Even after reading the threads.
