Why do you carry a big and a little knife together? Pic Heavy

Updated Daisho...I carry my guardian3 (CPM-3v) in a left hand cross draw and my 0804 in my left pocket...would it be more conducive to carry my 0804 in the right pocket?

Think the reason is obvious:

I carry one of these always because then I'll always have a knife on me:

Usually backed up with something bigger for doing some serious work, if not a fixed then one of these:

Sometimes all three, slipjoint, multitool/folder, and fixed.
Recently I've been carrying a small fixed over a folder as they are stronger and easier to clean:

The large fixed, which I have a few, rarely get an outing now as I get older. A smallish cutting edge is all that I really need. I prefer taking less or far more specialised tools. If going big then it better be big, or a saw.

Instead of a large and a small Blade carried at one time, for convenience I carry a medium sized blade of 3.5-4.0 inches.

When in the woods or kayaking, I sometimes bring a big and a small blade.

The smaller is able to and does about 90% of the work. The bigger can be a knife, chopper or axe/hawk.

Here the smaller:

Here two Wirkkala Pukkos together:

Very nice combo - cant go wrong with those.

Nice array. Assume thats a 4.1 and a 3.5. If one should limit oneself to just one GSO, Id go for the 4.1. Just my opinion of course YMMW.

Ditto on bringing/using a small knife; when in the woods I often bring the small Pukko above or this small knife made to my specs in 1090 which my friend made me. 3 1/4"

It does 90% of the work as mentioned.

I also usually bring a bigger blade (knife, chopper or the below), so one can alternate between the two or the situation calls for it.

If I need a bigger blade, I sometimes bring this small(-ish) beard hawk by the same maker. Also made to my specs. Not only able to punch above its weight but also far more useful, than one would thínk....not least round a fire.

The GSO 4.1 is the better of the two as it is the first full sized fixed in the line that does it all. I like the 3.5 just because it can go into a coat pocket, but it is a bit small.
Thats a good looking knife you have there. Classic and simple usually does it. A knife that feels good and can cut is best, anything more is very optional.

There are so many great blades out there. My offering shows my age, but once you have a few quality ones then if you rotate them they will last a long long time. They are for cutting things, and your favourite for use will be the one that cuts; which might not be the one you just fancy most.
