"Why do you carry a weapon?!"

I thinks it is because I have a very small penis balls and brain.

Damn you haha! When I saw this thread I was all set to reply with that, you beat me to it.

I don't really think of a knife much in the context of a weapon, sure it can be, but it can do a lot of non-destructive things too. Now a gun on the other hand, that's a weapon. I carry both daily, they each have their place for me.

OTOH, I'm pretty sure that some of the open carry advocacy crowd around here (that we tend to see on the news for all the wrong reasons) are compensating for other shortcomings...

I OC because the grip snags on on my cover garments more often than not, and because I don't feel like buying new jeans to fit an IWB holster. Couldn't care less about any attention it may/may not gain, and more often than not folks don't give a damn around where I am. Funny thing is walking into the local police station and the detective taking my statement just wondering what I was carrying and how it compared to his Glock. Gotta love W.PA.

A folder in my pocket. Needed a knife in a hurry and most were on the other side of the kitchen or in the wash, so I just used mine. You'd think I'd stripped naked from the shock on their faces.

I work in a kitchen environment as well and I constantly use my pocket knife. Although I wouldn't use it on food or food prep. A leatherman is handy as hell to have as well.

Sorry men, you are wrong. I don't carry a weapon.
I carry a tool, only a mall ninja considered a knife is a weapon.

I don't want to derail this so I'll keep it short...if it were legal, I would probably OC (or semi conceal) for the reasons you mentioned, basically the convenience factor. Not an option though because OC of pistols is illegal in Texas, CHL or not. Through a weird legal loophole, OC of long guns is legal. There is a group that keeps popping up in major cities (DFW, Houston, etc) who seem to think that marching around with loaded long guns on their backs is a good idea. They don't seem to understand the concept that just because something is legal doesn't mean that it's a good idea. I want OC (of pistols) to be legal, but it has died 3 times in the legislature, including last year, and the 'in your face' crowd aren't doing any favors sadly.

You are lucky to have pro 2A LEOs, even in Texas many are far from that, especially in some of the cities. I tired to get a local LEO signoff on a suppressor about 2 years ago and was practically laughed at by my city dept and county sheriff (I went the trust route), in spite of having no criminal record, having a valid CHL, and being a generally upstanding citizen (including being a member of the state bar).

Just last weekend, I was grocery shopping and had a Blur clipped on my shorts pocket (black clip/tan shorts so it was pretty obvious) and noticed a sheep-person (sherson?? haha) glaring at me in line... Part of me wished he knew I had an LC9 IWB concealed under my untucked shirt.

I usually carry a pretty small knife on the weekend, like a 2" blade. I still get that occasionally. I have said "a...weapon?" while stabbing at them (from a distance) with my tiny blade. You'll see me on the news I guess.

The best answer is prolly "in case you need to open a box".

First off I carry a knife as a tool first but do carry for defense as well. Reason being Ive been cut twice in my life by a knife during bar fights, both were small wounds. But The one time several people I know were cut badly by man with box cutter in a bar. Im talking life threating deep cuts to the neck and thigh. Lastly I live in small town of 30,000 but everyweek there is one or two stabbing. I want to be prepared

"So I can save your a$$ when you crash and are stuck in a seat belt" I said. I just found out that I have a anti-knife friend..... Should I trust him?

I never get asked silly questions like that. No offense to your friend, but either he's comedian or a total flake. A comedian will make you the butt of his jokes and a total flake....well, I just don't trust them at all. So, no I would not trust him.
Really?? You were actually asked that question??

Man I thought open carry was legal in tejas. I mean open carry of all types of firearms. I know the knife laws well - 5.5" blade length, fixed or folder, no dirks, no daggers, no double edges, no gravity knives, etc., etc. But I always thought open carry was legal.

A good friend of mine packs a ruger gp100 357 magnum when he mows his lawn. He has never been hassled by anybody. He always tells me that if he's in a drive by he's taking 6 of the sombitches with him. I say more power to him.

I don't respond to people that ask me stupid questions like that. I don't have time to try and explain my position to incredulous protectionists.
Done and done.

I'm pretty sure I heard this here some where,

But when I get asked:

To accomplish tasks my hands can't alone.
