Why doesn't Busse include sheath??

Jerry Busse said:
Sheaths are no longer included with and therefore are not added to the price of the knife. We are doing this to better serve you. Now, instead of having to pay for a sheath you do not want, you will be able to choose from a wide variety of sheathing options and can have your sheath customized to your liking.

There will be three types of sheaths available, including Cordura, Kydex, and Leather. We have the top sheath makers in the world participating in this venture including, Dwayne Puckett (Armoralleather), Mike Bartol (Mt. Mike’s), and Kenny Rowe with various styles and options in leather. Eric Noeldechen (On Scene Tactical), Brian Wagner (Okuden), and Dave Brown (Buy Brown). In cordura we feature the awesome designs of Dan Hirayama (Semper Paratus).

almost forgot to add the biggest one of all - coating issues.

that was a doozy for a while. "my knifes coating is getting worn off form kydex - your sheath is defective. I want new coating."

same for leather sadly. busse combat really doesn't need to deal with such things, and being that they are a company that cares about customer service, they would try to deal with as much as possible.

Where would Bravado and I store all those danged sheaths,
if Jerry provided them? As it is, I've got a box full I never use.:D

ive had many of the "factory" sheaths. and while of good quality, none were really what i wanted, so they never got used.

i would rather wait a little while and get what i really want than just have something so i could carry right away.

but maybe i have just gotten used to the way it is done.

I can thank Busse for getting me into making sheaths. Now it takes up all my spare time.

I fully support Busse not selling sheaths with their knives, because sheaths are too personal and lots of people would gripe about 'em, and others would have sheaths coming out of their ears, as has been stated already in this thread.

You mean like this

I like the option of shopping around for a sheath, a lot of the makers buy the blades for themselves, and if you watch the forum, folks post when they're sending a knife to a maker. Yeah there's a lag, but it's gotten a lot easier to score a sheath than it was a couple of years ago.

I have a few knives, but only get sheaths for my users, which usually means trying a few different styles to see what I like. My GW has 5? different sheaths, depends on the situation as to what pants it wears.

Trying to provide sheaths would just cause more whining and bitching than not. Even on my cheaper blades (Scrap Yard) I go for custom sheaths. Spec Ops are ok, but limited in size. Most factory sheaths are awful.

These are all recent pics of ASH LE and ASH 1 sheaths I've made, with and without stone pouches, high and low throats, also a lefty. When you choose your Busse you get to choose from a wide variety of sizes, styles, colors, and handles. Why not choose your sheath the same way? I'm sure the kydex and ballistic guys have many options too :)

That's strange. All my knives came with sheaths.

Totally agree with this. Owning Busse knives got me into my first purchased custom sheaths and now I know how to make my own. I would never have bothered otherwise. Now I like making them (trying to make that is) for all the other knives I own that came with pretty poor sheaths.

As others have mentioned, Busse focuses on what they do well and leave sheathmaking to custom makers who do that well. In my opinion its a great system. I'd much rather pay for a top quality Busse blade and know all that cash went into just the knife and then order a great custom sheath from one of the many quality sheathmakers who frequent the BF community.

Skunk where can I order one of those? You gonna put them up on BCS? Cause those would sell faster than the knives. I like the custom ink work too. Steaming scat?

Yes Strider was a character in LOTR. Also known as Aragorn.
