Why doesn't everyone just have a small sebenza?

Why don't I have one? Flat don't like it. Doesn't fit my hand, I like thinner blades, and my only metal-handle folder I actually use is a Douk-Douk.

Simply doesn't send me.

The Small Sebenza Insingo is my favorite folder, so you won't get any argument from me :D

I was really serious about ordering one until I found a knife shop that stocked them. I didn't even bother handling one - just took one look at them in the showcase and I knew they would never suit my tastes.

Price. My Kershaw skyline and Benchmade mini ambush do everything that I need, and I can get both for less than a third of the price.

hi there, tad new to the forums. was thinking of picking up a smaller sebenza. i'm used to aus8 and vg-10(sog) can anyone enlighten me as to how much better s30v is? i've never heard of the metal prior to joining. i've read through some of the threads about the different steel qualities and such, but i'd like more personal experience. any and all info is welcomed.

why doesn't everyone have one.....well i still need to be wooed a little more :p

Sebenzas just don't do anything for me. I might give $100 for one, new.

I don't have any dislike for them, just don't have any real love either...

i really like my small regular sebenza. its been my secondary EDC knife since i got it about a year and a half ago.

CRK knives don't really tickle my fancy. I'm not fond on metal handles of any flavor. Nor am I fond of any of their designs. The only one I could see being slightly interested in would be a small Insingo, but I ain't paying $400 for a knife.

Kim, the thing with S30V is that it's essentially a great all-around knife steel. It doesn't quite excel at any one thing, but it does a pretty darn good job with others. It can be a bit annoying to sharpen depending on the heat treat, but it will hold an edge fine and isn't too difficult to touch up.

1. Out of my price range. I suspect I'm not the only one who would put $400 towards something other than a single knife.

2. Not my style. Totally subjective. Some guys like heavy duty tac knives. Some like art knives. Some like traditionals. I don't see any stainless/ Ti knife replacing my carbon/ stag stockman.

YMMV

Frank

Steel can be worlds apart from manufacturer to manufacturer. Cutting performance depends more on the heat treat than the name of the knife. Nothing wrong with the Sebenza, i just really prefer S30V at a higher hardness. I don't like having to sharpen a knife every single day. Some people use their knives very little if even at all in a day, cut a string off their shirt maybe, open a letter, cut some sort of tape. Others use their knives many, many times a day for a variety of things and need a little more performance out of the steel they use. ;)

Wonjin, s30v is very similar to vg10 and just an all around balanced steel. Good in every category but not great in any. The perfect workhorse and edc steel imo. The only downside is that it doesnt keep a hair popping edge very long but keeps a working edge forever. If you like vg10 than you will also like s30v.

There is no knife that compares to the Sebs quality. Just observing HOW it is built reveals that it is in a league of it's own at any price range.

Folks who truly appreciate instruments tend to have exceptional ones. There are perceived qualities like "style" and even materials. There are methods and ideas. There are corners cut but rarely ideals met. There are different flavors for everyone and prices that run the gamut. Any knifemaker will tell you that the Sebenza is hard to beat and impossible in it's pricerange.

Why? Because everything the small can do, my Large Classic BG42 Sebbie can do better. ;) :)

I feel the same way, but about the Large Sebenza.

Once I picked up my first Seb my knife lust has diminished by a great margin.
My collection of 35 knives has come down to about 12 or so and would only like to lessen the collection.

No matter what new awesome knife comes out and catches my eye the Large Sebenza continues to steal pocket time from every other blade I own.

The only replacement is another variant of a CRK. lol :D

I have too many knives, and yet the Sebenza design left me cold - I did prefer Klotzli at that price and refinement level. Then I bought the small Insingo variant because I liked the blade style, and I must say that it is growing on me. It is unobtrusive, sturdy and good enough for all normal uses. I still prefer Klotzli though!
In any case, I am thinking of reducing my collection from around 180 towards around 20 "essential" knives, and I think that the small Insingo Sebenza will stay.

In a friggin heartbeat. In fact, I'd sell other knives to buy that one.

Wow, can you just imagine an CPM-S90V Umnumzaan? I'd cough up the money for that real quick. That might just well be the best seller of all time.
