Fellow Blade Connoisseurs,

I am at a loss. I always hear some much about Benchmade, Microtech, Spyderco, SOG, Etc, Etc.... Yet if you do a search on Delta Z, you hardly come up with anything. I don't think I have read more than a handful of posts all together about them on Blade Forums (And I have over half the Archives read :) ). I just don't understand. They have there own forum here and it hardly gets any action. I do understand that they do not come out with as many new models as some companies, but still???

I will admit that in my possession I only have 1 Delta Z, The Maple Osprey. I do however have 2 more different models on there way. I went to there website over the weekend and looked under there Promotion section and they must have over 30 models of NICE folders that are going for a discounted price of $24.99. I almost sh-t myself and busted out my credit card faster than you can operate a waved Commander.:D Yet I still see no one ever talking about them, and hardly ever see any of there wares for sale or trade in the exchange. Something doesn't add up. So let’s hear it. Have you given any of there products a shot?? I know my Osprey is valued by me more than a majority of my Benchmades and damn near all of my Spydercos.

I have a Delta Z Darrel Ralph Osprey with the
damascus blade and it is incredible. There were
only 100 made of these and I have #003. You are
right, Delta Z does have some very nice knives.

Im definately ordering a few of the speacial promotion deals. I can't think of better knives for $25. Thanks for pointing this out.

I am a big Delta-Z Osprey fan. I also have the red maple burl handle model. It is an elegant, functional knife. The narrow blade was razor sharp out of the box and it stayed that way even after a lot of use. I keep meaning to pick up one of their manual stilettos. The pricing on Delta-Z knives makes them quite the bargain. I wonder if the low prices cause the knives to get less attention than they would if the price was much higher. Delta-Z definitely have some of the best knife bargains around.

I have a Delta Z high tech folder. It's got a liner lock, Sandvik 12c27 stainless blade steel and blue maple burl scales. The knife has nice even blade grinds. The blade seems to hold a decent edge, but is a little soft when compared to some of my other knives. It's a tip down carry and the blade it around 4". There's even a cool Elishewitz style large pivot. This knife had an original retail of $200.00 and was made in Italy.

The problem is that if you hold them side by side, the knife has an almost identical profile to a Microtech Socom Elite. Both the blade and handle match up. While the materials on the Delta Z see high quality, and the knife is finished well, when compared to a Socom Elite, it is found lacking in several areas (lock, edge retention, overall rigidity).

The scales on a Socom E are one piece aluminum and rigid, whereas on the Delta Z, they are part maple burl and part aluminum. The joint between the materials allows for handle flex, especially where the liner lock is bent away from the scales to engage the blade. This flex does not exist in a Socom E. The liner lock will accidentally dis-engage much more readily than the Microbar lock if you do a light spine whack test on both knives.

Other than that, the Delta Z knives seem to be well made and I'm sure some of their closeouts are great deals. It seems that they have their closeouts most all the time from what I've seen on their website, so I don't feel a pressing need to buy them all right now. I've looked seriously at the damascus Osprey several times, but haven't bought one yet.

I am tellin ya, The prices are insane!!! I thought I was seeing things. Sorry folks, but you can't even get a decent CRKT for $25. If someone reads this thread and doesn't buy at least one of those promotion knives they are a DUMB-SS!!:D

jmxcpter I hear what your saying, And I am not sure which model folder you have exactly. I understand you say it was $200. But I am looking at these closeouts that the MSPR is on most is around $100+ and they are selling for 1/4 of that. They are a great deal and wouldn't compare it to a $150+ Socom Elite. :) I too, want a Damascus Osprey pretty bad

I just wanted to say thank you BadGuy for posting about delta z.
Since i'm still new to knife collecting I have never even heard of delta z before, but I now have one on it's way home and from what i've heard i'll like it.

The crkt m16-14 is now going to have to wait.:D

thanks again.

It's just that I'm "off on a tangent" with Spydies ; being a lover of stilettoes, I am eyeballin' the
"Manual stiletto" they offer. At $89.95 who(m) could resist!?! I don't subscribe to "parochialistic
thinking/buying" oft, but the thing is I DO. Time to break this "bad habit" and become more "worldly" as
applies to knives. Tried this with my CRKT Ryan "Plan B", SOG Pentagon Elite & Benchmade 556 "Griptillian".
But "trying" is far from "doing" IMB
and if I can EVER "break" this "vicious cycle" the "manual stiletto" has my vote & will no doubt by my first step in the "right" direction.

AET ;)

Well I am really glad I started this thread. If nothing else, because of the awesome deals that they offer, I will have 5 or so others to post with about Delta Zs. I am glad that you guys went to the site and bought something. I am sure you will be too. For those of you who haven't checked it out, I would advise you do. It's www.deltaz-knives.com I imagine that would be OK to post since Delta Z maintains a forum here and they have a link to there site there. And I may be wrong, but I don't think 1SKS, New Graham, or any of the other authorized dealers here even sell them. Moderators feel free to edit if this is advertising.:)

I have posted more than once on how inpressed I am with Delta Z. The first one I owned was a large Olive Burl handled liner lock I won in a giveaway. Fantastick knife, but a little too big for me. Normally I don't like liner locks, but Delta Z does an excellent job, and their natural materials (wood, bone, horn) really look classy. Recently I picked up the smaller wood handled folder for a buddy's 50th birthday, and bought another one "for a rainy day" ;) .

I think the quality on these knives is above the entry level (CRKT, Kershaw, Buck, Gerber) makers, with good quality steel, secure linerlocks, and best of all classy handles. For $25-35, a much classier statement as a gift or a dress folder than any Zytel folder out there.

I got another e-mail from a member today saying he ordered two models of the site as well. We should have a few good threads coming our way about these knives. :)

WOW! finally they have damascus knives on sale. Does anyone have one of these? how their damascus compared to, let say, Case or Bear MGC?

I'll agree that the Osprey is ugly, but the Delta Z line is pretty deep, with lots of other very nice folders.

whoa momma the only hard part about that decision was my wife telling me not to buy more than one ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! I....must....buy....knives!!!!!!

I actually didn't end up buying one of their folders even though I thought the price of $24.95 was very respectable for them.

What I bought instead was:

DZ-5312-MW
3.75" (3.8mm thick) Fixed Stainless Steel Blade (W.No. 1.4116)
8.25" Overall Length
Satin Nickel Silver Bolster
Packaged in Carton with Genuine Leather Sheath
Brown Stabilized Maple Burl Handle

$49.00 On Sale! (was: $199.95)

What can I say.......It just spoke to me!!;)

I've got a couple of the lockbacks and a couple of the fixed blades that I've picked up over the last year or so from their clearence section. I've found the Delta-Z's to be just about the sharpest out-of-the-box of any knife I've seen. Also, the W.No.1.4116 steel takes and holds a great edge.
