Why doesn't everyone own a Delta Z????

Well just judging by 7-8 replies here and a couple of e-mails I got, It appears that the main reason people haven't bought an Delta Z at these prices is b/c they weren't aware of them :)

Speaking for myself, I've always looked at Delta Z knives, but at the same time, I've also had to make choices based on how much I had to spend. Meaning that their knives always looked good to me but given their usual pricing I had many other knives on my list that I would put ahead of them. When you [BG] posted their sales that they were offering it was the first time I had heard about this. So I went there and that's how it went for me.

It's about that simple.:)

TheBadGuy: I have often wondered the same thing -- why don't we hear more about them? I have a couple of their folders, including the Osprey, and just love their knives. One possible reason for not hearing more about them is that I've never seen a Delta-Z knife at a B&M location, whereas you do see Gerbers, CRKTs, etc. We all know how important it can be to actually hold a knife before buying. Other than that, I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it too. I agree that their closeouts page has awesome deals.

TheBadGuy,

sniff, sniff, I think I smell a passaround.

... and since you have sooooo many now.. :p

Thanks for the heads up about Delta Z. Any comments about the quality of the blade steel? The lockbacks I looked at didn't specify what type of stainless was used but I assume at these prices it must be 440A or somthing similar.

I bought a prototype 512 series over a year ago. It is a carbon fiber handled clip point with a coated sandvik plain edge. I have used it pretty hard and it looks well used.

I paid about $75 for it new and it has held up pretty well. Sandvik seems to sharpen very well but requires constant sharpening.

great customer service, BTW..................

Thanks for the heads up on the promotion. I guess I will now own some Delta Z knives.

The high-tech folders are Sandvik, while the non-damascus lockbacks and fixed blades are W.No.1.4116. This is a German-made stainless. I've heard it compared to 420HC. To me, it's behaved very similarly to the 440C on my Benchmade Griptillian in terms of sharpening and edge-holding.

the one I like is $160.00. I have to wait till tax time to fix my car. Besides, the next one-hander I get is going to have a clip that's better suited to my southpaw. If I was a righty and wasn't driving my wife's car, sure, I'd have the maple osprey. It's gorgeous.

I've never been to fond of the designs DZ has come out with.., but I admit I certainly haven't looked at their stuff extensively. Good thread..., thanks..

Unfortunately, IMHO all the liner locks on the promotions page clearly list 440A, at HRC 56-58 as the steel used. Not what I would call quality, this is what the Knife guys on the home shopping network yell about when they are trying to sell you 50 knives for $75. I’ll admit that the Delta Z knives are probably making a better-finished product then what you see on TV, but they are still using cheap material.
And if the steel that they call W.No. 1.4116 is comparable to 420HC, I would again give them that it is at least one step above 440A, but it’s not a big one.

If you want a lockback or a fixed blade hunting style knife look at Buck Knives.
http://www.onestopknifeshop.com/store/buck-hunting-knives.html .
The Woodsman is $39 or $50 with a wood handle. The 500 series lockbacks are $33 - $37 and a real Buck 110 is $40.

See this is where not giving a damn about steel helps out. The two I ordered are scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday via Fed Ex. I will do a review on them at that time to include how they take an edge.:)

For those of you that followed this thread originally please see this thread from over at the Delta Z forum.

Looky-looky!!!!:)

The little cocobolo-handled linerlock I picked up from Delta-Z a couple weeks ago has certainly changed my opinion of 440A. It's a great little knife. I got it for $24.50, but I see the price has since dropped to $20.00.

Add me to the list of people who never knew they existed. Im really considering picking up one of the damascus lockbacks for $129. The damascus looks as nice as any out there and the burled handles look nice too. I wont know how the fit and finish is until i get it, but at $129, its a risk im willing to take and im not expecting custom quality either. Hopefully itll be as well put togther as my Pease and Dake lockbacks, yeah right. :) Course theres a little price difference of about $2,000. :) But i definitely wouldnt mind having a damascus user and it sure looks like youre getting a lot for the money, if its even reasonably well put together, itll be a hell of a bargain.

ok ok... I could not help it... picked up "Liner Lock Folder
DZ-6101-OB"... the second folder from the top. review to follow.. Thanks for the heads up!
