Why Don't You EDC a Butterfly Knife?

I had a Spyderfly. Got it as a gift. Ended up selling it, because I found out it was illegal to carry here. Makes no sense to me, my flipper is easier for me to deploy. I have no use for a knife that I can't carry.

Illegal in Washington State.

I like playing with them. I suck at it, but I find it fun regardless. I'll carry one some day when it gets legal.

Kinda strange that the Kimura fell right into the price range where people say they want it, but somehow they couldn't make it go.

But yeah, I'd like to see a quality Balisong in the $100-ish range too.

I frankly think they're dumb. I use knives as tools, not toys. The majority of the draw for a balisong seems to be that people like twirling them around. Just my opinion.

I need a knife to cut, and I have no desire to "play" with it. But for those folks who do, that's great.

Plus, I'd probably cut myself more than I do now.

Been after one for years. Due to stigma on them and the legality issues there hasn't been room for growth. Therefore unless you spend a minimum of $250 dollars you're not going to get anything of quality.

While I've been after one for years I never settled on a kimura and never been willing to fork out about $300.

So even though they are legal where I am all I've had is cheap flea market $1 balisong.

Outright banned in my country; even private possession of it is illegal.

Besides, I don't like the shape and design of balis. Not my kind of thing.

Bali's just aren't my style. I have no desire to own one or even spend much time handling one. Lots of fast knives around if that is your thing that are legal most places. I don't want to be wondering when I travel if my knife is legal. Also even if they are fast to open with practice, I don't regard a half second or a second improvement as a big deal. Self defense with a knife is not on my radar.

Does anyone else realize that the balisong is a working knife? A one hand knife? The dancing came later. The addition of a pocket clip is a convienient touch. The balisong is one of the best folder designs ever.

I EDC a balisong occasionally. It's extremely practical IMO. (I'm not a "flipper"; I only do a couple of very basic openings.)

It's a very simple design that's lightweight and robust. What's not to like?

I don't carry one because I don't own one. Which precludes the carrying of one.

I also don't have any interest in them at all. I believe they are perfectly legal where I live.

Yup, legal here as well. I carry a fixed blade 95% of the time, so there is no advantage to the monkey dance that sometimes goes along with a Bali.

Anything full sized isn't legal where I live
I still probably wouldn't edc one if I could . I'll admit that they can be really fast and sturdy, but
I don't need my folder to open quickly or to lock. if I do need a quick sturdy knife I'd rather have a fixed blade. Not to mention that good ones cost more than I'd spend, and I don't like my knives to make fast motions as it just draws attention that I don't need.
I would probably carry a balisong comb if I didn't wear a hat 365 because I could flip it for fun, it's legal, and if it draws attention they'd see that it's just a comb
