Why have knife sales skyrocketed

I should sell some of mine. Some are worth hundreds more now and I could buy something that will be worth 3x the price the next pandemic

Messaged you the link. My cousin got pretty freaked out when I drove down to Chicago to pick him when I was wearing that shirt and blasting Tom Macdonald's clown world. While he agrees, he was worried we'd get shot. I told him that I would just have to shoot back then. Freedom of speech baby.
Well to be fair in Chicago you might get shot! It's mostly peaceful shootings though...

I'm all for peace and love, flower power. My bullets become flower shaped upon contact...lol.

Its not looting, I just can't afford a new tv is all...or a rolex...

I'm entitled to these things.

People have been using this time to reflect and look into the past. In the past they find those who were self sufficient and handy, and most carried knives.
Just a thought

It has a lot to do with the popularity of knife reviewers on YouTube (Nick Shabazz, Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors, GideonsTactical, Slicey Dicey, and Dutch Bushcraft Knives to name a few) and retail channels (KnifeCenter and BladeHQ). You have the perfect storm of the rise of super steels, a lot of online personalities in the knife community, and a bunch of people stuck at home for a while looking for a new hobby. There's also the the nostalgia factor, because for a lot of young guys, one of the first prized possessions they remember having is a knife.

All this has been feeding the collector side of the hobby and resulted in an explosion of new options being made by knife companies. This is truly a Knife Renaissance and while I don't know how long it can last, I'm both enjoying and being overwhelmed by all the quality options out there.

more knife buying ??
would that be from existing markets
or new emerging ones?
strange occurances have reshaped
many things of late.
cabin fever had taken root.
at the height of the pandemic.
its no wonder uncertainty, insecurity,
and boredom would have been
the foremost thought in many minds.
people prefer to forget problems;
some even to the point of denial.
at some point get distracted
and would resort to party on
with the slightest of reasons.
everyone rejoyces on hearing good news
especially if it entails
any sort of new found freedoms
hope is like a burst of sunshine.
feeling optimistic enough to
make hay when the sun shines.
but lets not get blinded by the sun.
all good things must come to an end.
the gravity of the situation
cannot be denied.
science has it that what goes up
will eventually come down.
expect sluggish market growth
at some point, if any.
just how fast are things selling
out at the exchange recently?

People buying knives for protection are fooling themselves. It takes a lot of practice to be proficient, even then odds are you will be cut.

I'm not referring to whoofloo shortages. I'm referring to knife makers reporting a significant increase in orders. For example, Tops knives released a video saying they are making more knives than ever, and have a large volume of orders.

Now that said, I know that I have tripled down on my knife purchases because ammo is hard to find, so I haven't shot, so I haven't bought more guns. I just bought a microtech today that flirts with pre pandemic Glock pricing. I've spent more on knives in 2021 than I did on guns in 2019.

lots of people started investing in their own ammo-making gear... but it's insane how high all of it has gone up

if anyone has a machine shop, and can put out some of those, it's like forging gold right now

This conversation is getting deeper than all the bull**** in my last tax return...
We've gotten in Middle Earth now? I am impressed!

Middle Earth? Where's Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas when we need them? Where's my axe?!!?!

I have noticed this. I have been on ebay trying to buy a certain style of knife and there is one dude on there that I seem to be competing with. He has beaten me 3 times and I have won once. Some other knives are going for crazy money that 2 years ago would have been half as much. nuts. As for the reason why, I agree with the comments below 🤣

Knives R cool

Knives are awesome for social distancing.

ITS THE APOCALYPSE WE MUST PREPARE!!!!!!!!!! ALL KNIVES MATTER!!!!

I blame hipsters.

Because knives don't run out of ammo

Lots of extra time to look at knives on instagram with the apocalypse

With all those amazon pandemic boxes coming in, I have had to break down a lot more boxes. People probably have gotten tired of their dull or ugly knife and went full tard on “cardboard commando” (trade mark) feeling an inflated sense of macho dicing up boxes to smitherines. By the way, I AM THE CARDBOARD COMANDO! There can only be one. (In my best Christopher Lambert voice)
PS. My side kick is Clamshell Ninja. Together we rid the house of oversized recycling and defeat the evil Waste Management with their fines of overflowing waste containers. (yes, I have gotten fines for the lids not being shut because of too much recycling in the can. Can you believe that?!?!?)

When did you "bump heads" with this guy?

I’ve bought 5 in the last 5 weeks:

Shirogorov Hation Zero CF
Shirogorov F3 Canvas Micarta
Medford Theseus Custom Flamed Ti
Medford Praetorian Slim Custom Flamed Ti
Medford Der Hund Violet Ti

I’m the problem, not the solution.

I know for me I've upped my knife purchases significantly during the "pandemic" times. I think my subconscience is pushing me towards things I like and that are useful, over paper. I think this was a wake up call to a lot of people, in that they were reminded of the frailty of society and life in general. I think people self medicate with things that make them feel good and hobbies are that outlet. Everything is just going to get more expensive as demand grows and supply tries to catch up. Just my .02 that nobody asked for.
