Why have knife sales skyrocketed

People in many cities feel unsafe these days. Violent crime and unrest are at high levels. If you cannot carry a gun for personal security/peace of mind, a knife is a good second choice.

I think having an armed security guard might work better...

Same reasons the price for everything has skyrocketed.
"Inflation". "Supply and Demand."

Ok I've found something else to take its place. I'm going way out of my comfort zone on this. Its unique, not really practical, heavier than I usually buy, more than my self-imposed $300 limit, but cool as hell. Its been a long time since I put anything on my credit card (I have one, and never use it since the divorce) but $410 is a lot all at once...

Looking at an Arcane Design Anti-Matter with custom anodization. It is so out there, so different from what I normally buy...

Of course it is but most people don't have the resources to afford that option. Unless you happen to be a city official or a congress critter that is...

Maybe……..(and I am probably wrong)……….we have had this pandemic thing and people watch too many zombie shows and so they are preparing for zombies.

Folding knives would be a terrible choice. You want reach when dealing with zombies. Kabar has a War Sword that is cheap and would work well.

I used to carry a police officer under each arm, but since they're not allowed to do anything anymore, I had to switch to security guards for my EDC.

I'll bet you spend a whole lot less for Donuts now...
One under each arm?
Heck... I had trouble picking up only one...

Interesting topic and I agree with some posters before me. A knife needs no electricity or gas, a child can maintain and use a knife. Even after a TEOTWAWKI, a knife will always be a knife.

Recently excavated iron age (pretty much prehistoric) knife:

1. More disposable income
2. Some combination of more people getting into collecting and having free time to look at social media. Social Media is driving much of this. Knives are cool, however, they are becoming a prop for Instagram influencers to drive ad revenue and marketing $. Photographers used to take photos of flowers and wildlife - now they take photos of knives and flashlights.
3. Anxiety - people use them as fidget spinners. Case has a really good video about this (“hands”).
4. Fear of zombies

#4 really bothers me. This is driven by the constant fear mongering in the MSM and very effective social media campaigns by certain knife manufacturers and retail shops that have convinced the general population they need multiple, super steel, tactical, blacked out (“murdered out” for God’s sake) knives to protect themselves. This is preying on people’s fears to sell expensive knives. I hate that marketing angle.

I thought you are making a joke. There are people who think zombies could be real? Crazy. :-)

Knives don't work as well against Zombies; as a full-choke 12 gauge...
