Sorry for the man who had to go thrue the ordeal with the special order. I can fully understand how you must feel. I am a Tibetan Buddhist myself and when our temple recieves merchandise from Nepal or from the Tibetan enclaves in India it's always laughing time!
Most objects are very well done, these guys really put their hearts in it, but sometimes they really screw up big time!
From a buddhist vieuwpoint it's a great knife!
It also fits the "way of life " of the Himalayan people as well.
They take pride in what they do and do it good, but sometimes you have to explain it a few times before they understand the concept.
They think different as us westerners and have a different approach on whatever they do.
Remember that these guys have the fortune of living a good life because they have the opportunity to work for the kami. They also are not in a position to question the design, nor is it "weird "in their point of vieuw! Only when they come out with a design that is non useable or extremely large and unwieldy they will start asking themself questions. But even then they will probably make it anyway, and think that we are weird people!
I really love those guys, and you really should see this knife as a token of good will and pride. Have a good laugh with it and see if it has any practical application. It seems you have already found some use for it, and it's a VERY cool wall knife! No real knife loves can walk past the thing without stopping and staring at it. So although it didn't turn out as well as expected it is still a great knife!
