Why is my big box $3.00 throw-a-way knife (made in China) WAY sharper than my online bought Spyderco

Lol, woops! Looks like I effed up!

Sorry my brain got drained from the psychic sharpening.

No apologies necessary, I'm almost impossible to offend. Still appreciate you chatting with me and making me take a second look at my knife, because I really did find a solution to the problem, even if it wasn't the problem or solution you were talking about. Lol

Atleast it can still open bottles.

And look on the bright side, if you ever DO find yourself lobotomized with no thumbs you can always hook the wave on something to open the knife.

Yeah but he started this thread a couple weeks back and everyone already went over ALL of this with him.
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...-vg10-is-cheap-steel-hard-to-sharpen.1597924/

At this point I think hes just mad he can't sharpen it so hes basically flaming spyderco in his headline as a way to make it look like they suck because he lacks sharpening skills.

* Wrong * wrong and *wrong
Has anyone noticed the benchmade mini barrage I brought alone with the delica after stropping is very sharp.
It went to the same guy to sharpen, I dont owe any allegiance to any knife-maker. If their knives are sharp
and dont break and hold up well and do the job, then they deserve to be praised, if not then the opposite.
Why do you make big assumptions like these? and in this case its wrong.
I am thinking about sending it to the edgepro company or one of the guys who offered to sharpen it.

My experience with "professional" knife sharpeners has not left me very impressed. And the fact that your professional knife sharpener got the Benchmade sharp but not the Delica could only mean that the Benchmade started with lower edge bevel angles and he managed to sharpen to the apex.

Use a black sharpie to mark the edge bevel, and run it for a couple strokes on your sharpmaker. Then look at it under magnification. If you can see any black at all at the edge apex, it means that you have not sharpened to the apex. This frequently happens when a knife comes from the factory with edge bevel angles that are higher than what you are using. I like to sharpen to about 15 degrees per side, so I usually have this problem. You just need to keep going until you get the bevel set, then you should be able to get the knife very sharp. VG-10 takes a crisp sharp edge and you should be able to do it with some practice.

If all else fails, send it to someone on the forum who has volunteered to set the bevel at a lower angle for you. I could do that. Once the bevel is properly set, it should be easy to keep it properly touched up.

Do what I said in post #19 of this thread. Until then stop whining.

Why post anything if you won’t read the advice people have given you and follow it?

Otherwise you are just bitching about the fact you don’t know squat about sharpening. Congrats, we all feel very bad for you.

Thanks Knarfeng
That is a good and detailed answer, I appreciate that.... & will do

Q - What angle do you recommend for a Delica Flat Ground VG-10
Q - What official angle did this knife originally come with?

On a Sharpmaker? I use the 30° inclusive setting for Spyderco VG10.
Have no idea what angle it comes with. I don't think I've seen many knives come from any manufacturer with a specified edge angle.

You researched sharpeners on Yelp, paid to have two knives sharpened (one for the 2nd time), examined them with a loupe, but haven't bothered to post a single picture. People have given you plenty of advice on how to sharpen, or judge why your sharpening technique isn't working. However, since that isn't getting it done, why don't you take a picture of the edge? Hell, take a picture of the knife too since you've at various points made baseless speculations about whether or not it's a genuine product.

Did you give the two-wheel guy a 2.5 star review on Yelp? He only managed to sharpen 50% of your knives, after all.

Hahahaha awesome pun. "Wave" it goodbye! Isn't it called the Emerson wave? Lol if so you're a very witty fellow.
Why thank you - I was just having a little fun at your expense - I see from your other posts in this thread that you are not the piggyback moaner I thought you were. I apologise for any offense.

Im not sure he’s hitting the sharpmaker. A little patience and a bit of practice, this may be just the knife he needs to learn the loving art of sharpening.

Other knives are getting sharp on the Sharpmaker
The Delica is wavy, with the sharp edge pointing up, it is waving in the same way the ocean is
slight waaves, but they are there.

I will work on some close ups of the edge, if I can, yes it would be very helpful to have those photos

You posted nearly this same question about a month ago with tons of responses. Strange idgi
No some were similar, this is different if you carefully read both you will see. My point is if a $3 knife and a $15 assisted opening with
8Cr13MoV are much sharper, whats the point of the Spyderco, the Spyderco is slower to open, much slower and so far the steel
is a project I will say. I am not going to be a die-hard-fan of anything unless there are good solid reasons.

A mark of low skill is inconsistency.

There are so many good vg-10 sypdercos in the world that, before people believe yours is bad, they will need some amount of evidence greater than zero. Which is really all you’ve provided.
You seem good at insulting and quick to judge and not so willing to solve problems

Well, you've had trouble every other way, and don't seem to want to send it out, so..

Since you dislike the knife, you shouldnt mind this and this WILL get it sharp enough to easily cut paper.
This would be good and if it works great, its cheap on Amazon, I think I will also try this

I would stop ‘thinking’ and start ‘doing’. And until then, don’t start any more threads.
I started a new thread because there is a difference, my question is why spend so much on a spyderco if a $3 or a $15
knife does the same thing. If it cuts well and is tough and lasts, then why is a spyderco so much better. And that is obviously a differant post. Is there an actual law here you cant have a similar post and ask different questions, or is this a control thing ?

If you honestly cannot tell the difference between cheap knives and expensive knives, then in your case I recommend that you only buy cheap knives.

This thread has run full circle back to the beginning comment from the Opening Poster. So it is being closed.
