Why is there no other options for the clip position on the military?

I didn't like tip down carry either. For a knife the size of the Military, however, it works better in my opinion than tip up.

Agreed, your thumb is in place as soon as the knife is out. You don't have to crawl your grip.

I don't know why this continues to linger. It seems that most knives I'm interested in only come with a tip-up option. I have long hands and I've done this experiment many times, but just to be sure I did the experiment again this morning. I put my Para 2 in my pocket tip-up and carefully positioned it where it would be if the clip was mounted on that end. I put my hand in as far as I could and pulled the knife out. My thumb was 2" from the hole in the blade. It would have taken a lot of fumbling to position the knife properly in my hand before I could open the blade. I put it back in tip-down, pulled it out and my thumb was in the right place with no shifting necessary. I did the same experiment with my old EDI Genesis with a thumb stud and got the same result- my thumb was about 2" from the thumb stud. Before the Para 2 I was carrying a Benchmade mini-grip. It is a relatively short knife and tip-up carry only. I put it in my pocket and pulled it out, my thumb was very close to the thumb stud because of the relative shortness of the knife. It required only a little bit of shifting before I could open it.

The other issue with Spyderco knives, especially the Millie and the Para, is that the pivot end is much bigger than the tip end because of the hole in the blade. When I tried to pull my Para 2 out of my pocket it didn't want to come out because the big hump in the blade was caught on the edge of my pocket.

The reason I did the test was because I have been interested in the Benchmade 581 which is tip-up only. I concluded that if I bought the knife I would have to settle for slow deployment. There are only a few Benchmade models now that give you tip-down carry and I would be restricted to those models. Or my Para 2 which came set up perfectly for that.

I can understand if a person wants to do a wave modification then tip-up might make sense.

I don't know why this continues to linger.

People are different. What works for one might not work as well for another. I set most of my knives to tip-up if I can, and don't have any issues with it. Para 2, Caly 3, Kershaw Shallot - all tip-up. I've got a Millie sprint, too, and can open it just fine as long as I remember that I'm carrying tip-down instead of the usual tip-up.

If I have a complaint with the Military clip, it's that it's RH-only. I'm thinking about getting one of the LH models but not sure that I can justify the cost when I seem to be exclusively carrying a Para 2 now.

Don't forget the military only has partial liners so nothing to anchor the clip to.

The reason is the same reason the original PM has only one clip position and many older Spyderco's only have one. Spyderco has not gotten around to applying the next generation of Constant Quality Improvement (CQI, I believe that is what they call it) to this knife. I would bet a lot of money the Military 2 will have 4-way clip position. Why the one clip position was selected as it is seems to have been addressed.

You're welcome. I found them when looking for a way to install screws in my titanium slab knives. They sure beat tapping Ti...drilling is easy...tapping...not so much.

Don't know.....tip up feels natural to me, don't like flipping it around to open the blade.

I used to wonder the same about the Military, until I got one. It makes sense on that knife, and I'm a tip up fan. As for the P2, if I carry it tip up and pull it out that way, my thumb is literally right next to the hole. I suggest you buy one and if it doesn't work for you, sell it or trade it.

Keep in mind that when you move the pocket clip from the tip down position to the tip up position, the curve in the clip faces the wrong way. You need to order a left hand clip (for a right hand knife) and vice versa.

Yeh, but that's a flipper. All you have to do when it's out is to extend your index finger and flipping. That's easier to do than crawling your grip and opening the blade with your thumb.

Don't know man....I did carry a delica 4 for like long time...and I had it tip up.

Because you can't use the "search" feature.

The knife is so big that you would have to manipulate the knife too much to draw and open from a tip up carry position.
