Why is there no other options for the clip position on the military?

I would like to get one some time, but I don't like tip down carry.

This is an excellent question! It's something that's bugged me for a long time. I bought a Military a long time ago and I think it's a pretty good folder but I hardly ever carry it because I hate tip down carry, especially with a knife that has a lanyard hole. I think a lanyard increases the possibility of grabbing your knife in panic mode ,but what's the use of a lanyard if it's at the bottom of your pocket?
The few times I now carry the Military is if I'm going somewhere I suspect I could lose a knife.
With all the endless variations of the freakin' Military you'd think it wouldn't be too much to ask to have at least one model in tip up carry.
Hey Sal next time you're wondering if your next incarnation of the Military should have a polka dot handle, why not make it tip up instead?

Because you can't use the "search" feature.

The knife is so big that you would have to manipulate the knife too much to draw and open from a tip up carry position.

Why are you being a smart ass???
You don't like my question...don't click on MY thread,,,simple, right!?
Move on......:jerk it:

I'm learning up in here...sorry mr. know it all!

Thank you.

That's easier said than done with the G10 version, since it would require redesigning the liners and as a result milling out the G10 differently. The titanium version, though, doesn't have that problem, so I'm not sure why they didn't do it there.

I provided an answer as well.

If any have seen Sal open a military from the pocket you would understand why tip up isn't necessary.

Most people don't think about the most obvious reason.......

It doesn't have full liners. If you look closely at liners you'll see that the ONLY position that the clip can be tapped for is right hand, tip down.

I understand....but I'm not asking for much, for one I might have bought one if they had tip up carry. Can't be the other one that thinks like this.

It is asking for much though, you might not realize it. There would have to be significant changes to the liners, this costs money, and the price of the knife would more than likely go up. I like not having a truckload of holds in the G10 that fill up with dirt, mud, lint, etc. if you have your heart set on tip up carry, contact STR and he can possibly convert the knife for you with a custom clip.

The Military is one of the flagship models, it didn't get to that status for no reason. Making a change like that might be welcomed by some and not by others. Buy one, carry it for a week, if you hate it tradeit away and find something else. The Para 2 might fit the bill for you even better.

what're the pro/cons to each? the way i figure:

TU - smaller profile at the clip so the knife sinks deeper into one's pocket or waisband, giving better concealment. also better when you like to use a lanyard. con is slower deployment. probably good for hand-sized folders. TU seems better for waistband carry.

TD - hole is right near your thumb even before the knife clears your pocket. less chances of snagging for very long and very wide and very thick folders. but knife is more visible, lanyard is not accessible. seems best for pocket carry. you can carry it TU but relying on the lanyard instead of the clip.

It's all good still a ton of knives out there to get. Speaking of para2 I just got one like 2 weeks ago.....it's real nice.

And it was just a question...that was it.

Don't know man....I did carry a delica 4 for like long time...and I had it tip up.

As has been mentioned earlier tip up works fine on shorter knives because your thumb will be near the pivot and hence the thumbhole when you pull it out. Taking out a longer knife by pinching it at the butt will put your thumb about two inches from the pivot and the thumbhole. This means that you have to adjust your grip by two inches towards the pivot before your thumb can be in a proper position to thumb the blade open.

A delica is much shorter than a military and when you pinch a delica's butt(no joke intended here) and take it out, your thumb already less than an inch away from the pivot and the thumbhole.

Maybe more people understand this the way you wrote it.

The why is because it is an old design. Length is certainly not a reason with all the 4"+ folders out there with tip up mountings. The Endura, Resilience and Police show how much of a fabrication that theory is.
