Why Lynn Thompson Rules!

As I stated before, the profile is a very traditional one. It is very similar to the HS designed by Steve Tarani.
Well, the edge (/teeth) on the back of this very special karambit is perfect for cutting your own thumb unintentionally.

The HS has a 8cm blade, the CS has a 12cm blade, so I'd prefer the last one. It's not illegal to sharpen the back of the CS karambit, too. I wouldn't sharpen the whole back though.

just imagine the greater amounts revenue Cold Steel could have if Lynn simply showed a little respect to his competition, and stopped burnning so many bridges in the knife community. He does offer some decent quality for the money..............
Of couse, I could have no idea what I'm talking about,so theres that to think about as well

The serrations (or rippers as they are traditionally called) will not cut your thumb if you know how to properly use a karambit.

A karambit is a CQC blade. It's use is specifically for when you are in a position where "reach" isn't really a concern any more (IOW you are way deep in the shiite). That is why it is considered specialized and "limited" in it's use. As for sharpening the back edge, you could do this.... by why would you when there are options out there that come this way OOTB? I am simply addressing your statement that it is the only kbit out there you consider a combat blade. If you would like to school me on the uses of a karambit however, we should probably do so in a seperate thread rather than hijack this one.

As for the other posts in here that are ripping on CS, is this not the very behavior that had people so upset over on another thread? Turning the tables on a thread that had one subject or intention and making it a bash thread instead?

I am in no way supporting CS or LT. What I am supporting is the concept that two wrongs don't make a right. At least not in my book anyway.

When I say that I only consider the CS karambit as a combat knife, I'm mainly talking about the size.
Every knife can be used as a weapon. Smaller knives are a compromise to me.
I'm not a "knifefighter", if I carry a smaller knife on a daily basis, I want it to be a multi-purpose tool. So I wouldn't choose a karambit anyway.
Small karambit-like blades (called "Hippe" over here) are nice for the garden (harvesting berries and stuff) IMHO. If I had to choose one karambit in a weird and twisted, James T. Kirk "fight to the death" szenario, it would be the CS.
But normally, even if I wanted to carry a combat knife, it should be a multi-purpose tool. So I wouldn't take a karambit with me to begin with.

All IMHO of course. Sorry if I'm brainfarting, but most of us are no knifefighting-experts.

PS: I don't care if you "hijack" the thread. I don't like LT either. ;)

Yup he rules if you buy into hype, and poor business ethics.

I would rather support makers who are not "ethically challenged" but it is a big world out there and that is why it is so interesting.

EXACTLY!!!

Well he is coming out with the Kudo... a spinoff of the Okapi knife. I am peeing in my diapers waiting for a Review on the Kudo! No... I am not an Astronut! He He He

What did Lynn Thompson do that has brought on all this dislike? I don't keep up with all the stuff in the knife industry. What, exactly, did he do to cause you to not purchase his knives?

The last thing he did that finally made me stay away from the company was he clearly took a design from a maker and then continued to talk a lot of s~~t about that maker in the advertisement of the knife design he stole. I think there are some people who may disagree with that statement, but as far as I'm concerned, it was clear as day. I'm not interested in screaming to the world how much I hate CS, but if asked I'll give you my opinion.

Well that sounds pretty bad. I don't know why he feels the need to do such. Let the knives speak for thmselves. I know he admitted paterning his UWK after an SOG bowie, but I don't recall him trashing SOG. Which model did he trash? I think when a maker copies another, he should give credit to the original inspiration. In some cases, I have seen copies that were actually better than the originals. I think that in such a case, it is ethical to point out any improvements over the original without disparaging the original.

It was more like trashing of a person as he copied their product

I think that many CS products are overpriced cr*p. On the other hand, LT sells other cool stuff. I own a number of Sjamboks, Spears, Axes, and FB knives that were good buys and I've had many hours of fun using them.

Thanks. I assume he did this publicly. Maybe LT is a real jerk. Thanks for the info. There are and have been weasels in every industry. Look what happened to Western Knives.

I may be wrong here but wasn't Cold Steel the only company to pay Spyderco royalties for the use the Spydie hole. As for myself I do not like his marketing and it does give the anti-knife crowd lots of ammunition. Even still I like the fact that they keep pushing the envelop for new products, like the canes, blowguns and soon to be out warclubs. Some of the products I love, like their shovel others I hate, like those serrations.

Sorry, but the dude is an assclown, who will say or do anything to sell his knives.

Lynn Thompson, love him or hate him, is an innovator, maverick, and performance junkie. Just keep in mind his target audience and the fact that his products are geared towards mass production to keep things like "quality" and "design" in perspective.

His accomplishments are vast. I do not like all of his products or marketing techniques, but in person he is a No-BS individual who firmly believes in what he does and develops.

He could care less if you like him. In fact, he won't lie and tell you he was a ninja to gain your acceptance or otherwise piss on your leg and tell you it was raining either. I think he sold real estate prior to Cold Steel.

I particularly like the Recon-1 folders and the Voyager series. They all have exceptional edge geometry for a folding knife. I would like to see him do some more limited run pieces in specialty steel, but I really am not his core customer. He makes knives for average folks at average prices. I am way past the average price thing.

offers a decent affordable product that you can actually purchase without a 3 month wait that is in most cases too much knife than will ever be needed in the real world for 90% of us...got no problem with him...ethics is a broad topic my friends and it includes controlling supply and demand hype in order to promote hoarding as well as outrageous claims...:jerkit:
