Why Lynn Thompson Rules!

After reading through alot of the posts, many postitive about the products and some positive about the man. And many negative about the man. It seems to me it comes down to what you choose to focus on.

Yeah if making global judgements about somebody based on a certain part of their whole reportory of decisions and actions is your thing, I can see how it is easy to come down on the side of all out rejecting him.

But on the other if you are able to hold a paradox in your mind, that a guy can be an ass while at the same time being a great inovator and business man, then there is much to admire and find of interest in LT.

Over the years CS have had many knives that I have liked. They still do. Though it may be very successful, I have absolutely no respect for the way Lynn Thompson markets his products. Totally classless as far as I am concerned.

I think everyone who is a member of bladeforums is a dork.

I own:
a Spike
Larerdo
6" Ti lite
6" Voyager
Ultimate Hunter
Trail Hawk

They all work just fine. Absolutely No problems yet.

well, i suppose that includes you then, huh lol.

Why Lynn Thompson Rules!

The guy knows how to generate publicity for one.

So does Paris Hilton, and as far as I'm concerned, she looks far better in spandex.

But besides that, you got to admit he is one of us. I mean he loves knives. And not just knives, all kinds of big, sharp stuff that you can send hurtling through the air, or chrashing through an unsuspecting watermelon.

The stuff he comes up with is, admitedly a rip off of other designs. But alot of his stuff IS origininal. And his products are just plain fun to play with. How cool is a sjambock? Or one of those torpedos? heavy double ended throwing spikes, that'll knock out prey even if it hits sideways.
You think HE came up with the idea of the Sjambok? I bet somebody in South Africa could tell you different!

I take my Cold Steel Bushman to the woods for camping and for its price it is a tremedous value.

How about , since he and cold steel are taking alot of heat elsewhere, we make this thread, a Cold Steel / Lynn Thompson appreciation thread?

Any fans of the product or the man? and why?

Umm....mmkay. Well, according to DngrRuss1, Lynn doesn't have any parking tickets, so......Way to go, Lynn!!!:D

How's that for appreciation?!

Regards,

...and that Vaquero shape and time of introduction just might make it the original recurve so "copied" by other makers......

....hehehehe

He is a marketing genius and the one to be credited with the success of the Americanized Tanto. The videos they post are exactly what is needed to sell to many people not familiar with knives as much as we are...make no mistake, we are a small minority. Their catalog is probably the best laid out of any knife maker and their marketing is very good. Indeed, Cold Steel makes a lot of cool toys. As far as ethics, we can all debate that but there is no doubt that the man is a massive success.

Not even close.

I would have say that is one of the best descriptions of LT i've read.I can't understand why everyone gets so pissed off when this subject comes up.I would hate to think i had nothing better to do than sit around and rag on a guy for trying to make money, you guys act like he slapped your mother or something. If you don't like him,get over it.He is just another guy trying to make his fortune and most people who buy his stuff are well pleased with it.

What I thought was funny was when L.T. said he would never make a Karambit because they were a poor design and only people who thought they were soldiers and lied about their service would make or sell them. Then he produces and sells one less than a year later. Way to go L.T. you must run for office. I think the liberals would vote him right in.

I've never seen a fully-serrated recurved folder offered by anyone else . . . and it's lightweight for having a 6" blade, as well as under a hundred bucks.

My advice would be to judge knife companies by the products they sell rather than by the personalities of their owners or managers.

I'll tell you what is special about Cold Steel. The normal lifespan of a product in our industry is usually a year or two. Sales start strong and go downhill quite quickly. After that they become meaningless has-beens and are often discontinued. The Spyderco delicas and Buck 110's and Kabar 1217's that sell year after year are definitely exceptions to the rule. Most new knives don't last very long in the marketplace.

Cold Steel has an amazing record of producing blades that stand the test of time. I've been selling knives for 9 years. Many of the Cold Steel products we sell today, we sold when we first started. The tanto fighters have been there since the beginning of Cold Steel.

You can ascribe that record to anything you like but it isn't something you can argue about. It is a plain fact that the designs and characteristics of the products have lasting appeal. They may not appeal to you but they appeal to a meaningful segment of the market. That is what makes Cold Steel special.

let me start by saying i own a few cs knives and love them! let me also say i have never laughed so hard in my life like i did when i watched that goon on his "solid proof" video! i could not wait to show my buddies and watch them roll in the floor laughing like i did. im not a "rocket scientist" but dear GOD you dont have to be to figure out this man is a determinant to the knife industry and to us! wait until activist get a load of that video. we have a hard enough time keeping them off our back about guns, hunting, fishing e.t.c without this idot fueling the fire. imo he does not care what happens in the future with the knife industry as long as he keeps getting rich now. in the end its you,me and our children that will pay for it!

It is already here. Paypal won't let me accept Paypal payments on our sites because we sell "tactical" knives. Google won't accept my advertising for the same reason. The far left are already going to war with us.

Face it if you read LT when he first came into the knife business, the man talked a lot of crap about all designs and other brands.(it was true back then a lot more so than now) Back in the 80's when he first started pushing those fixed blade 6" tanto's, there was ads in outdoor mags calling them "snake medicine" showing how they could be used to easily take off a thumb holding a Colt 357 mag Python at close quarters. He has always adjusted his knives, as far as design I've noticed over the years to whatever he thinks will sale. Now he has produced most of the blade designs that he originally he said was crap. At first the only thing he seemed to think was a worthy blade was the tanto. He came into the knife scene when there really wasn't a lot of good cheaper choices. Back when I was a kid it was rare to see much in the way of razor sharp locking folders. The knives today come razor sharp and lock up solid. I recall the older folks back then thinking it was really a big deal to have a lockback or a shaving sharp blade. Today its no big deal. If nothing else Cold Steel was one of the players that brought about the change to better knifes being sold by all manufacturers.

Sifu Lynn Thompson is part of the Axis of A-holes, the Troika of Turkeys, and the Iron Pyrite Triangle of Tossers, along with his soulmates Electric Rifle McClung and Mogadishu Mick.

If I keep hearing more out of Dork Ops, there's gonna have to be a Cube of the Cutsey Fartsy, Quartet of Queefs, or the Square of Stupidity to accommodate the addition.

As I have said elsewhere, I wouldn't accept a free knife from any of them when there are much better makers and companies in this industry deserving of support.
