Why not more Ball Bearing Locked Knives?

Hmmmm....I think ball locks and access lock should be reserved for Benchmades I dont think anyone does it better.

IMHO, the Axis lock is sub standard to the BBL. It uses two weak springs, it can't be taken apart, and the springs have been known to break.

And don't flame crap like that here. :thumbdn:

Im not sure what an "access" lock is but the Axis locks are reserved for BMs, the ball bearing locks are reserved for Spydercos :rolleyes:

.........I took mine apart :D

And voided the MFW. :thumbdown: My main reason for not buying a Benchmade is that they (for the most part) all use the Axis lock, and don't support tip down carry (my preferred carry option), and they won't let you take the knife apart. I'm not going to ship my knife away for a week or two while they fix two springs... Sorry for the rant.

I think that the BBL Spyderco uses is hard to integrate into upcoming designs because it's something you really have to design the knife around it. Thicker handle, liners, tang shape, etc.

That being said BBL+Military+Orange G-10 = Knife p0rn + Instant buy. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

The D'Allaras warranty is the same to my recollection. The only two that I know of that can be taken apart without voiding the warranty by the ELU are the Delica and Endura 4s.

Having the D'Allara and two Axis lock Benchmades, and given a Polliwog as a gift, I'd have to say that BM does the "lug wedging behind the tang" lock more effectively, while Spyderco does it more elegantly and beefy.
BM manages to keep the design more compact and easier to use, but the Spydercos just look so nice with the polished bearing in plain sight and the strength of a sphere is always greater than anything with 90* angles. The down side is that it forces the pivot off of a practical center, exposing much of the blade while closed. But most of you, I'd guess, noticed that.

I am really looking forward to the new BBLs.
Don't know how I overlooked this thread. Sorry to bring it back up, lol.
A friend on another forum just called it to my attention.
