Elen: I agree with your assessment. The F1 isn't a collector's piece. It is a robust example of what the Swedes can come up with when they put their talents to work. The F1 is a superb tool.

Of THOSE knives?

The Fallkniven.

I'd place the Northstar in second place. This Northstar is my user

Unless if you also count the blade blank. I really like the knife that came out of it:thumbup:

Also, when people come on here, and don't know a whole lot about knives and say "What's a good knife to get?" It just wouldn't work for us all to start listing our favorite custom pieces and whatnot. If you just want to hop on a website, and get an awesome knife, F1 is a good way to go.

Then these 2 are probably my favorites of the moment.

Although for a strictly survival type setting I'd probably go with the F1 over these 2.;)

I know this is a Fallkniven thread but what is the top knife? I really like it!

That's a Bark River Bravo 1.

It's a really nice knife. It's a little big for my taste but of that style of knife it really can't be beat.

Of those there, I'd compare it to the Swamp Rat there, the black one because they are of a similar type style. They don't look alike but if you held them you'd know what I mean.

However if you compare the Howling Rat to the Bravo on cutting performance there is no comparison. The Howling rat has a really steep edge which MIGHT be good for durability but makes it vastly inferior to the Bravo 1 for CUTTING STUFF. Also on the Bravo 1 the edge comes all the way down to the handle almost so you have tremendous leverage for cutting where the choil thing on the Swamp Rat removes about an inch of the blade:thumbdn:

Thanks man!
Hey what is the blade made from? Can you advise on who has a good deal?

And as to the Busse Knife-its funny based on the hype from when I started lurking here a year ago, I have got (had) three a GW and a couple of the Scrapyard knives they all had one thing in common for me too small of grip and too fat of blade. They really are nice looking knives ;)

The Bravo 1 as with most barkies are made from a2 tool steel. This guy from wilderness tools will give you a smokin deal on a bravo if he has any left. Tell him a "hoodlum" sent you and you won't be able to get it cheaper anywhere.

I got to use an F1 for awhile. Very nice knife, that I wouldn't hesitate driving into a hunk of wood using a batan. I bet it slices up a stick of salami just fine. :D

I have an F1...it is one of my favorites...very tough and easy to handle. I am on the hunt for the H1 now, after seeing ROCK6's. Hollowdweller, on the blade blank that was finished, who did the handel and sheath..the sheath looks fantastic. Gene

I have twenty F1s in different versions and some other ones.
There are actually some collectible Fallknivens. http://hem.passagen.se/nodh

I tried to cut the christmas ham (like the US turkey) with an S1 last christmas and I found out that it is not really a great kitchen knife. It did cut the ham but the blade is so thick that it almost splits the ham. The same goes with slicing potatoes, they break like wood. The knife did make nice cuts in the cutting board though :) The lessons learnt from that is the need to get even more Fallkniven knives :)
Use the F1 or S1 to do bushcrafty things and use the WM1 for making food. The F2 might work too :)

I did the handle. The sheath was done by Rapidboy who posts on British Blades and Bushcraft UK a lot. It IS a really nice sheath. The fit and finish are outstanding and also the leather is a bit thinner than some and that makes it a bit lighter and more confortable IMO.

Here is some more pics and sort of some background of the design of it.
