Why Sebenza vs other customs knives?

That's a very good point that I think a lot of folks may be missing.

How much of the Sebenza's price tag is added on to make it "worth it" for Chris Reeve knives to sharpen, refurbish, and warranty their knives for life?

Is it better to think of as a $200.00 knife with a $200.00 lifetime insurance policy?

You are 100% right and alot of people miss that and don't realize how cheap it is to have it refurbed(I think 30 or 40 bucks) so when you total up the quality and the services crk provide IMO it's well worth it.

That's what I'm saying.

It's obvious you are either stupid or playing stupid and trying to draw me into a arguement with your question.

They don't do the refurb for nothing. It's not a big expense but they do charge.

I really like the idea that if I hose up the blade on my Sebenza I can buy a new one and have it fitted at the factory. Or, I can buy a second blade and have it fitted at the factory. Then I can switch blades as I like. Some blades have a stone washed finish, some a dual finish, some are part serrated. CR also offers blades made with several different types of damascus steel. They will add dual thumb studs if you wish, or thumb studs and back spacers in either a blue or silver finish, etc.

You can buy a bunch of Benchmade Pikas for $300 of $400. Heck you can get a box cutter with a pile of blades for $300 or $400. It just depends on what floats your boat.

No not really.

If you look at the test I did in that thread you will see I didn't have that problem.

I have heard a few people complain of dull kershaw knives and only one person mention a sebbie rolling.

When put to the test my small sebbie made many cuts through cat5 and coax and was still shave sharp.

Please re-read the thread there were others that posted in the thread with problems with factory edges on their sebbies. There was even posts of people questioning the heat treatment given to the sebbies. Posts of people sending them to get them reheat treated at an outside source. People questioned if the factory heat treat was hard enough for the steel.

Every kershaw i have bought has been very sharp. I don't doubt you received one that wasn't. To me it appears both companies have duds. Just because your sebbie was not a dud doesn't mean they do not exist. I can post pics of a kershaw cutting hair with a factory edge does that excuse that you received ones that were dull no it does not. Just because your sebbie is not a dud does not excuse that there are duds at $400 plus per knife out there. I honestly wanted to buy a sebbie but the fear of paying that much for a knife that might fail scares me off.

Great..pissing contest thread

Anyways
To me, the Sebenza is like that shirt you own that goes with everything, well made, simple, etc (A benchmark if you will)

Customs to me are akin to tailored shirts and productions, department store shirts

Okay, doesn't really make full sense, but you get what I'm saying; it's the quintessential folder

we can argue it's ergonomics , or if it is worth the price but I don't think many will argue that the Seb will not fail on you. It will last long enuff to hand down to your grandkids and then some.

to the original poster of the thread , I would like to ask... at what price would you jump in and buy the Seb ? Just curious.

They have failed people in the mentioned thread. The knives i EDC have not and have been used for harder use then most would advise. If i bought one i would feel i had to baby it from the research i have done on other people's experiences. I am trying to make only informed and well thought our purchases as i have bought many knives that did not live up to my expectations. I would have a nice fat saving account if i would have made more informed choices in the past.

What the heck are you afraid of? What do you mean "a knife that might fail"? In what way?

Are you afraid it won't be hair splitting sharp from the factory? CR will re-sharpen it if it isn't right out of the box.

Your post sounds like a bit of trolling.

Actually.... I just did it!

Available financing came in earlier than expected. Patience lasted about as long as expected. After reading every single post on this thread... interesting how fast it went downhill, by the way... doing internet research... trying to make the most logical decision...

And you know? I just want my bomb-proof Lexus and I want it now! I bought a Large Classic Micarta for $455 tonight. And the very last large clip insert that New Graham had, because I don't like clips.

Should have it in about two days... send the deprogrammers!

(Actually, I decided that the handle shape and style, with the framelock, and the particular blade shape, were exactly what I wanted. If there was a custom that was identical to the Sebbie with such a loyal following of well pleased customers, I would have gone there - I wasn't buying just the name.)

But oh man, I can't wait to get that thing in my hands...

Sorry but I just have to say this...

The guy that started this thread what was his final decision again?

Oh wait that's right he ordered a sebenza.

I guess the that speaks for itself.

Sorry if I offended anyone in this thread.

I was just being obnoxious 8)

I think people just get tired of the question. It used to be a once a week topic a new thread starting just as soon as the old one slid off page one.
