Why so little love for TOPS?

No offense ment. Just being me. I probably should have stuck a couple of smilies in there. Sorry.

I own a couple TOPS knives and both are the Tracker. I'm used to hearing negative comments and I don't get all defensive or hurt.

No offence taken dbx. I comment from a perspective of perceptions as I understand that to be the main reason for the "little love" as per the heading. What I do see is a lot of love from those that do own TOPS products, and that says something to us skeptics.

Bought it like that. It's a Charge TTi esxclusive from Cabelas.

Thanks Samurai1978. I wish more companies would have the following attitude (as per their website): "Every year, international business becomes more integral to the growth of Cabela's. We want to take this chance to thank all of our customers who put the "world" in World's Foremost Outfitter. With four easy ways to order - by phone, Internet, fax or mail - we strive to bring you the best possible buying experience no matter where you live. Our legendary customer-service philosophy remains consistent across international borders. If you're not completely satisfied with your order when it arrives, we'll refund your money or exchange any item. Customers like you deserve nothing less."

"I dont always need a sharpened prybar, but when I do, I reach for a TOPS!"

The above tongue in cheeck;)

I got to handle a big bunch of Tops knives at SHOT Show a while back.
Far too many of them are massive and far too wide for my use.
A few of them I do like.

I agree that the majority of TOPS' designs are goofy and posses those ridiculous "saw" backs. But when TOPS gets it right, they sure get it right. The only other knives on my list are the 4" Tex Creek, Mini Scandi, and maybe the B.O.B. field craft. Wild Pig Hunter looks nice, but I already have a dedicated dagger for pigs.

"I dont always need a sharpened prybar, but when I do, I reach for a TOPS!"

This part is very true, My Firestrike 45 is a very pointy, axe edge sharpened prybar. The little saw teeth on back do not actually work like a saw, but they do serve to notch bone, wood, and concrete, lift kettles from the fire, and bust wire. Given the selling points Tops uses, seems it could be applicable for certain military operations.

The Tops BOB should be on everyone's list though.

I thought about buying the BOB but went with the TOPS Dragonfly instead. Both are good solid knives without the mall ninja look.

Yeah, I could not decide between them, so I bought both. They are excellent field knives....

What I see in my mind when TOPS comes up is a teenager that wants to be GI Joe one day who downloaded a CAD package from KickAssTorrents to design knives for his 22 year old nephew that has access to metal working machinery.

I'm sorry if this picture upsets some here but I just give it as I see it. As I said before ... it's just my perception that may well be unjustified.

Sorry, but that is not Mike Fuller you are describing for sure. He has been there and done that, probably long before you were born. I might add he really doesn't push that much in his advertising so everyone here should be happy about that right?

Still waiting for the Ninj-Ops 6-thousgun or the Spec-9 Opvicerator to hit the market. I need a tactical pry bar for freight processing at work. Also, zombie ninjas.

The only TOPS knife I own is the B.O.B and I really like it, one of my roommates liked it so much he bought one also. I can't speak for the other knives TOPS produces but if I lost my B.O.B I'd buy another.

A lot of the designs are odd, and the geometry isn't there.

They seem to be well constructed though.

Just picked up a B.O.B. this weekend at the NRA Annual Meeting show. So far I really like it. (except for that stupid notch in the pommel..that's useless) It's a great companion to my ESEE-6. There were only a couple other TOPS knives I really liked. Most were a little to wild and impractical for real world use for my taste. I'd have to say the B.O.B. is one I'd still buy it if I was to do it over again.

Seen this out there. Giving serious consideration. Only thing that makes me twitch is the notches on the back. TOPS Tahoma Field Knife, designed by Andy Tran if I'm not mistaken.

Tops have two turn offs for me. The first is the over the top advertising. Second is the treatment of Dave Beck when The Tracker movie came out. I found it a little distasteful.

This is so funny.....but exactly how I view them. I also picture them talking like "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure".
