Why Spyderco is unhealthy

I don’t have such high regard for Spyderco as some might do although I own some of their knives.

My biggest problem with Spyderco is the fact that does not want to have its own market. It wants its market and other people’s as well.
Look at their forum. Would you see praise of another knife?
Never
Even the makers who collaborated with them get nothing.
If it is not a Spyderco, its nothing.

I think that part of the sensitivity that Syderco fans have is the fact that others can make better production knives than the ones they make.

One of the opinions that a cheep knife monger like a Syderco fan would use normally would be this:

Why buy a Sepenza? Its over priced.
Spyderco is making 200$ knives that are worth crap. LOOK at the ATR
If Spyderco could take over the Chris Reeve Knives market, It would do tomorrow.
If Spyderco could take over Benchmade, it would do tomorrow.

Guys, they even made Spyderco an American Issue.
They named their knives after Victims 9/11.
They painted their knives with the flag.
They made their knives look like a western heritage.

Its not.
Its not an American Issue and its cheep Marketing.

Who is the most disrespectful of other knives?
Who would tell you that Benchmade is unethical?
Who would tell you that Zebenza is overpriced?
Who would tell you that a Strider is over built and over priced?
Who would tell you that a circle is trademark?
Who would tell you that every knife should be a Spyderco?
Who is the most insulting when it comes to other production knives?
Who is most insulting when it comes to custom knives?

The Spyderco factory and the Spyderco Fan

Everything I could decipher from your nearly incoherent post is wrong. Sal Glesser is a gentleman, and volumes could be written about what he has done to advance the knife industry. You are a troll who embarrasses the good name of the CRK Sebenza, why you have yet to be banned on this forum is a mystery.

Not a lot of thinking went into that erudite statement, eh? Gee mister, why would anybody degrade Spyderco in their own in-house forum?

Everything you just said is 100% FALSE. You should really look into researching your blather before hitting the POST button. Thanks for the laugh though, good job.

To be frank, each and every one of your points are ill conceived. I'd like to see any substantial evidence you can provide supporting any of your allegations.

How many Spyderco knives have you owned and used? I have bought, used, and traded many, and through this have gained a deep appreciation for their design and utility, along with a respect for Sal Glesser.

Additionally, I don't quite understand why you've chosen to single out Spyderco, specifically. If you care to browse through the forums of any manufacturers that have a strong fan base, I can pretty much assure you that discussion is going to center around that particular manufacturer's knives, and with a strong bias towards them. Not really much of a surprise, there.

Oh boy, where to start? First of all, any fanatical devotion to any one maker of anything is "unhealthy".

I have 2 CRKs (1 Seb, 1 fixed), 10 Benchmades, Becker, SAKs, William Henry and lots of others. I like knives. I like a lot of different knives.

I own about a hundred Spyderco knives. I just like 'em. Personal preference. I like the performance per dollar you get with Spyderco. Call me cheap. I like the variety. I have handled countless customs and will no doubt eventually buy some.

I just like to carry what I can afford to lose or destroy. I recently broke the tip of a Calypso Jr. My fault. It was a $35 knife. Easy to replace. Would a Strider or Sebenza have broken too. Maybe not but I am not willing to risk 10X the bucks for 5-10% performance difference.

I have carried Benchmades regularly. Just prefer Spydies. I understand the reluctance of others to buy Benchmade due to trademark infringement issues. Benchmade used to pay for what they acknowledged was a trademarked round hole (among other shapes Sal has rights to) but then they changed their mind. I won't buy a Skirmish but will buy others. It's for Sal, Les and lawyers  to work out.

Like Sal says regarding other knife makers, "all good, just different".

Why I'm feeding this kind of trolling thread is a better question.

Anyone ever noticed that Sbenza4ever only uses totally blind, roaringly biased statements when discussing anything that is "cheep"?
(In other words, anything that's not a Sebenza)

...man, and to think I wanted one. Now I can't even hear the name without cringing.....

I doubt if I could have said it better.

I don't own a Sebenza but I really want one, unfortunatly funds for me at this time are very limited. I wouldn't let what some people would call a "real idiot" keep you from buying one.

1: Get back on the meds
2: Go to the nearest supermarket and purchase the largest roll of tin foil you can find.
3: Liberally wrap your head in the aforesaid tin foil
4: Get out more (Even if its just to refill your prescription and to get more alcan)
5: Put brain in gear before mouth in motion. Or in this case, research your subject before spewing drivel.

I have never given anyone a red rep point. I just prefer to give green or none at all if I don't like their post. This guys tempts me to rethink that position.

Last night, I sharpened two of my Spyderco folders so that they'd be tree-topping (cut arm hair without touching skin) sharp. This morning, I woke up with post-nasal drip. I think Sebenza4ever may be right...

Some days you can't get anything right. This guy LIVES for those days. :D

I just did something I never saw before. I gave him a red chiclet for this thread and actually saw his chiclets go from two to three as a result.

Don't tell me "can't get no satisfaction".

i never understood what the 'big deal' was with Spyderco either. but then i posted a thread here and asked people 'hey - why do you like spydercos so much?'. and they told me, and i considered what they said, and bought one.
it was a spyderco native in S30V. all i can say is that its an excellent knife... and probably one of the better deals you can get for under $60. if someone new to knives asked me to recommend something under $50-60 it would be a tossup for me between the native and CRKT M21.

now while i myself wont be doing the whole 'fanboy' thing and spend all day posting about spydercos in the spyderco forum, i can certainly understand why people love these knives so much and buy them over and over again. theyre very well made from premium materials and sold at excellent prices, with excellent service. ive never heard sal or any spyderco rep badmouthing another company either.

so i dont understand your point. im not going to go and give you a red chiclet (seems like youve racked up quite a few today though), but im wondering what it is exactly that youre trying to accomplish with this thread aside from trolling. basically every single person in this forum has their own preferences of knives, and everyone has the right to spend their money on whatever the hell they choose. perhaps people like the design, perhaps they like the performance, or perhaps they just like owning 10 knives for the price of one Sebenza. its not your place to tell people whhat to like, or what to spend their money on.

as for Sebenzas - if you love them so much, why cant you spell Sebenza correctly even once?

You may be right... my allergies are being a bitch today and I've been carrying my Endura. But I poked myself pretty good with my Sebenza a few days ago on the palm of my hand... maybe it's the cause.
